Well I'm back...Sold my K5 last October and Now I'm getting another GM. My uncle called and asked if I wanted my Grandpas old truck. Its a 73 GMC K20 with a 350/unknown/np205 with a PTO winch. Roughly 70k original miles. Don't think it ever left the farm. Its been sitting for as long as I can remember, at least 20 years. It's right on the ID/OR border and is rust free, been sitting under a carport its whole life. I'm pretty excited to go get it.:D

Here's the question. What should I expect to have to do? I know all the soft goods will need replacing, belts hoses etc...Tune up fluids tires and I haven't seen the truck in 11 years so I can't remember if its an auto or stick. I'm guessing an auto would need a rebuild. Figured I'd pull the plugs and drop in some ATF to free up the rings before trying to turn it over. Axles will need seals and bearings. New brakes and lines?

Gonna try to keep this one original minus lift and tires maybe a higher HP engine.

Thoughts?:dunno:

Plan on nothing, it may need nothing but fresh fuel, might be surprised.

Don't flush the trans just change the fluid.

We got his 85 Jeep Cherokee shortly after he passed and a dry rear main seal caused a nasty leak. It only sat for a couple years. Whats whats making me think all the seals will need replacing

but that was a heep

I would maybe pull the plugs and take a peak if you dont have rust, I would not put trans fluid in it.

Think you biggest issue is going to be bad fuel.

Or should I say lacquer thinner  cuz that is what it turns into.

Personally if you want to lube the cylinder walls I like "Deep Creep", is "Sea Foam" in a spray can, and is damn good stuff.

Ya, it'll smoke like crazy for about 5 minutes, that just means it's working

I've removed heads and soaked (spayed) them in Deep Creep and let it sit for about 10 minutes, came back and wiped the carbon build up CLEAN with a paper towel. It really is THAT good.

As far as what to expect, are you hauling it home on a trailer?
