This is pretty fascinating stuff. i don't have time to watch until the weekend----and even then i might not, but enjoy:
YeahSame can happen to engines, transmissions ,even wheel bearings if you pack too much grease in them..more isn't always better!..
and i have always been a g.b fan for the way he builds power and parts .

yep i always shake my head at the diesel guys b!tchin about fuel prices per gal yet they dump it down the tail pipe and let it roll out as black smoke .Gale banks said once, we don't want our products to produce black smoke. That's wasted fuel and power, we want to make power.

I always heard that the reason to over fill a part time converted NP203 is that the chain is no longer in motion when in 4Hi.A lot of people with a 203 part-time conversion including myself add nipples and an elbow to fit more oil in. The idea is because less stuff turning not throwing oil into gear box. But now this has me wondering if that's a bad idea.
Hmm I thought it was the gear box. I've got mine over filled by 4 quarts if I remember right. But maybe I should still lock her up once a week or so.I always heard that the reason to over fill a part time converted NP203 is that the chain is no longer in motion when in 4Hi.
This prevents oil from reaching the rear output bearing.
Also why you want to lock the hubs and or put it into 4hi loc every 200 miles for a few miles.
Refills the gallery that feeds the rear output bearing.
Getting off topic but i gotta say this; The converted 203 doesn't completely equal the diff cover test because the part time kit changes they way it originally worked / oiled.
I always thought the conversion kits suggested motor oil because the lighter oil would splash / throw easier than thicker gear oil?
