ive got the moonvisor, but never installed it yet. pickup has sunvisor. i like the look

I'm with muddyblzr. I think the sunvisors/moonvisors/fastbacks/stick-on hood scoops all look kind of chintzy on most trucks. But to each his own. A cowl hood would be cool though...

I started researching cowl hoods and here is what I found. What do you think? I have little experience with body work so I would think steel would be preferred over fiberglass. No??? I'd appreciate any input, or your .03 at the current rate of inflation! :bow:

IMO steel is best as far as bolt on with no mods. In order to brace a glass hood enough to be good and sturdy, it is made to be almost as heavy so no real advantage of glass over steel at that point in my oppinion.
 
Those visors are a "no no".....

Visors are step 1 in crapping-out the looks of the truck..... :rolleyes:

Followed closely by step 2, which are those weird vertical triangular panels that people attach just behing the pickup cabs on the bedsides to make the profile look "cool"

Step 3 is a set of fiberglass running boards with the "Testarossa-style" ducts that climb the lower body line.

Step 4 is a set of diagonal-striped slit covers to go over the rear taillight lenses.

..... it's a 12-step program, but rest assured when you add them all to your truck, the results are CRAPTACULAR!!!! :(

apparently greg isnt a fan of body accessories:haha:

the only ones i like are the moonvisor and cowl hood, the rest i can definitely do without
 
mine is an all fiberglass harwood from texas performance (used to be called texas speed)
i like it because its really light. only problem ive had is fitment. if you can find a good steel one i think that would be sweet.
also my hood never gets hot.
route your intake through the cowl. when im done my will suck in air from right in front of the windshield
 
Hey Manny, I would get oppinions as well, but when it comes down to it if you like it, do it. That what makes all of our trucks different and personalized. A lot of people say that lifting trucks and putting bigger tires on them make them less safe and look stupid. of course they date complain when winter comes around and they need to get pulled out of a ditch. Point being if you like it do it, don't really matter if someone else doesn't like it.

If you actually NEED the clearance of the cowl (high rise single plane intake or whatever) then I guess they're OK.

If the engine fits just fine under a "normal" hood....then you're just being cheesy. Kind of like guys who run fake "ram induction" hoods with the holes not even cut out (or hooked up).

It makes me sad to see cowl hoods on something like a 1st Gen Camaro too.... the car has such a beautiful, classic profile, and the cowl hood (no matter how necessary) ruins the look.

Most of the Lund stuff just looks wrong to me.... no offense to the guys who love it.... I just don't.


Classic trucks deserve unmolested classic "lines".....

Friends don't let friends put the phrase "Yabba Dabba Doo!" anywhere on their rig. As long as your truck doesn't end up looking near this bad, I'd say you're doing A-OK.

I wanted your opinion, as with others, because you matter to me. Every one has knowledge and feelings towards every aspect of this hobby. We just need to sift through everything and use what we can to accomplish what we need to. I agree with you concerning the classic lines. I hate today's 4x4 because they have nothing to do with 4x4'ing at all. They are YUPPIE MOBILES on steroids. No personal character. No classic lines. All rounded off and look like muscle cars after Auuuh-nuld gets through with them.

Further, most who own them wouldn't know the first thing about utilizing 4 wheel drive and quite often, it's these highly edg-u-ma-kated folks you see spun out in a ditch or stuck frame deep in the MUD because they thought their $40,000.00 4wd could get them through anything on stock sneakers, or they felt that 4wd made them invinsible. Get real! Yeah, I agree. They b*tch about our big tires and powerful engines, but when they need a pull or a winch from the MUD or the snow, they're the first to say "Help! Please!" Good ol' American double standard.

Back to classic lines. I really love the lines of my K10. It's an all-American Classic to me! I don't want to junk it for the sake of cosmetics. If a cowl will help me with air flow as my new 383 is hungry for it, I'll go for it. If not needed, I'm prolly gonna sit on it awhile. I do like the lines of the Lund Sun/Moonvisor. I think it adds some style. Although you may disagree, it's just a personal preference. Jury is still out on this one too!

In closing, I would never ask you or anyone here to be anything they are not. Be yourself, and share your thoughts. If I or for that matter, anyone else ask for your opinion to begin with, we have no right to b*tch if the response equates to "pissin' in our bowl of Wheaties".

What exactly is the difference between a moon visor and a sun visor?
 
A tip from the "Desert People" is use some electrical tape accross the top of the windshield, where the dark tint is. :D
 
mine has the sunvisor i like it alot i think it really helps the look of the truck and blocks the sun. imo
