I am about to put on a milodon #30700 oil Pam and a felpro #1880 1 piece oil pan gasket. The gasket did not come with any bolts or hardware. Will I need to buy longer pan bolts due to a thicker rubber gasket in place of the old cork gasket? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1356060988.322811.jpg

Ive used the same gasket on stock pans with the stock bolts, worked fine. Best damn gaskets. ever made for the purpose imo, they work awesome. Dont use any silicone or anything.

Agreed, I put one on my truck years ago and it's a great setup. Stock length bolts.

used a few and all work perfectly. and stock hardware. thay do go on tight fit. so draw down evenly around and around.

Anyone use rtv in the corners, or just put it in dry?

I ALWAYS use a small dab of RTV in the corners even on these gaskets and never an issue. I've been building engines professionally for 25 years.

New problems with gasket instal

So I am trying to bolt the pan and gasket to the block, and the front seal of the gasket looks too thick too allow for my front corner bolts to start into the block. it is taking all my effort to push the pan against the block to compress the gasket and then I can only get 2 or maybe 3 bolts in. Is there something I am missing here? Thanks for any help at all

There are 2 different pan gaskets and the difference is the thickness of the front seal, guess you need the gasket with the thinner seal. This must be for a driver side dipstick engine?

Yes, driver side dipstick, but I was told gasket thickness was dependent on oil pan, not timing chain cover. I have the after market milodon #30700 which calls for thick front seal. Any thoughts?

Yes that is correct that the seal is determined by the pan and not the cover but i've ran into this exact situation before and had to use the thinner front seal gasket.

EDIT: Where did you find info that says you need the thick front seal gasket?

Milodons website says to use thick front seal with the pan I bought. I am frustrated to the point of going 4 piece cork.

no oil pressure and top end chatter

Okay, I finally got the new pan on and have not leaks, but now I have no oil pressure and some chatter in the valves in the top. Is there a special procedure to reinstalling the oil pump? I got the correct distance (1/2") form oil pump pickup screen to the bottom of the new pan. Is it possible I did not get the oil pump shaft to sit in the block propely? Is there oil priming involved? If the oil pump shaft is seated incorrectly into the block, is there irreversible damage done? The truck only ran for about 3 mins with the chatter up top.

Thanks

Maybe not 0 psi, but 5 or so. Not enough to lube the top end. If I get oil pump working correctly, should the chatter go away.
