About the fittings that the flared trans line screw into, should there be some kind of sealent used on the the threads of the fittings that screw into trans Houseing?

I'd say yes. No worries about electricity being able to flow through it, and it's an aluminum housing, so to require less torque to make a seal, I say use something.

Personally when it comes to these types of fittings, I've got some ARP thread sealant lying around that I use. Pretty much a paste. I have no complaints about the stuff...seems to keep even semi-pressurized fittings sealed, and is rated for pretty high temps. A lot easier than using something like teflon tape.

Would oreilys or autozone carry something semilar to that ARP sealent? Yea I would feel better about there being a sealent used. I was thinking gas pipe teflon tape. Its just like regular teflon tape but yellow and has a heat rating. Can't remember but I use it to seal the header pipe on my cr500

AFAIK GM didn't use any, but it would just be insurance. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you can't.

Yellow teflon tape is "double wrap" rated stuff intended for propane & natural gas pipes...its thicker than the white tape and is required to pass inspection and meet code...there are other types of teflon tape also..I prefer paste type sealers myself...teflon tape can sometimes get into places it dont belong and cause troubles..

I use "Recto-Seal" pipe thread sealant on threaded pipe connections, its great stuff, and my dad had a few cans of it lying around,so I've been using it for years, trying to use it up..
You may not find that at home centers, you might need to go to a "real" plumbing supply or good old fashioned hardware store to find it..

There are many other things you can use on pipe threads like Permatex PTS,Form-A Gasket #2 non hardening,Indian Head Gasket Shellac, etc, but only use those on things that wont need to pass a inspection on house plumbing--will work fine on automotive applications..remember,only tapered NPT fittings need sealant or tape, never use it on a flared fitting,it's not needed on those and will only cause grief later on...

Any Teflon type paste sealant will do the job, don't crank too hard on those fittings and crack the case :eek1:

I got this stuff called blue monster from the plumbing store. Seems like its some promising stuff!

Make sure you have a good flare. I didn't have a good one tried torquing it down and cracked the flare resulting in even more fluid loss.

If you are using the factory straight pipe thread fittings, those are usually sealed with a hard to find copper or Teflon washer. Sealant will work if you use something good.
