Fender seals

I think regional things have more to do with being ordered from the factory that way. Like was mentioned in snow plow country, seeing more quad shocks and heavier suspension.

AFAIK, a base truck was a base truck, anywhere in the country, short of the emissions for places like CA and high altitude.

Two scenarios I see here...either it started out as a diesel only thing, and was included in all later trucks to make them more appealing to the masses, or it started as an option of some sort (although HD heating or cooling might have included it too) and then went to all production trucks for the mass appeal.

I wish I could remember where I read about this piece and what it was included on or with...

i think every gm I've ever owned has had them, I've seen a few trucks w/o them...i just assumed they had been removed, they will make the cooling system more efficient, seen it 1st hand, like i said above! maybe the dirty south/hot areas got them, b/c gm knew more air flowed thru radiator w/them in place, it was a gm service manual where i read about them stopping air from bypassing the radiator, by going around the truck and thru these gaps, causing airflow to decrease thru radiator core!

I don't see anything sealing the fender to the cab helping cooling

it will, w/o these air could pass around the front thru these gaps causing air to decrease flo thru the rad, w/them in place air can't bypass the rad.....its the same principle as a boxless speaker canceling itself out by air moving from front to rear of the cone

Unless I'm reading something wrong, I'm pretty sure he said the seals that seal it to the cab not the core support

I believe he is talking about the seals between the cab (in front of the doors) and the fender (about where the door meets it). I believe the items you are talking about on the inner fender are splash guards for the exhaust and I believe all trucks had those. Mine have KL and KR in stamped cut-outs on the splash guards for left and right. I have a set somewhere, I will post pictures when I find them as an example. I can't see the insulators doing much except preventing wind noise or possibly keeping wind away from the doors.

I believe he is looking for these

ok, i stand corrected, i'm talking about the pieces w/kr & kl cutout, splash guard, guess thats why i've never had a gm w/o them, we talking about diff parts....that other piece,idk....never seen them off the truck...i'm not even sure where they go, i'll have to go look at all my junkers & drivers, see exactly where they are

Just one so far. I got about 20 boxes of truck parts and I know there are more in there somewhere. I'll do some more digging tomorrow. I think I have a set in a C30 Silverado I am parting as well. I'll let you know by the weekend.
