Cut fenders are better than smashed in fenders from the tire rub.

If there was a way to run what I want without cutting OR lifting to the moon, I would have been there. As it is now, I have no regrets. It was either the fenders, more lift, or live with my new tires getting shredded. I didn't want more lift SOOOOOO........

[/ QUOTE ] Good point, I agree with you there. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I just think on a truck that sees some street duty that if you are barelly rubbing, another inch or 2 of lift would probably fix it. But like some of you with really big tires, those stock fenderwells are just plain not big enough and you gotta do what ya gotta do I guess. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif Cut fenders are better than torn up fenders and shredded tires though. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I'm curious... is there any particular reason why people cut so much out behind the tire?

When I did mine they turned out similiar to Brandon's. I removed a large amount from the back of the wheel cause my fenders had big rust holes at the bottom. I figure less fender is better than more fender full of rust.

On mine I would have cut further back near the top of the opening to retain some of the "shape" but I wanted to keep the inner fenders. I cut out as much as possible to still use the inner fenders. I plan on welding in a pice of sheet to fill the gap between the inner and outer skins of the fender(red box) and extend onto the cab(green box) to have a complete inner fender and attach the bottom of the fender to the cab. Its not attached cause the bottom bolts were badly rusted and were cut out along with the fender.

For those who wanna know, I've got 4" rough country springs and 38x15.50x16.5 TSL radials. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Nice job Branndon, I might have to get your help to do mine. I think I am ready to start hacking...

Big big thanks to BobK for helping so much, it seems when ever he comes over he ends up doing most of the work. Thanks again Bob.

we discovered that since bob's 1st gen is so nice and his DD that he'd live vicariously through me. When ever he gets the urge to cut something up he'll cut mine up.

Nice job, cut fenders are cool! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I went for more of a radiused look with my current cuts, but had that straight line kind of look going on before I went with the "cut everything possible off while still keeping the inner fenders" style. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Fender Trimming Day 1 * tons of pics*

But cutting the fenders also keeps the center of gravity of the vehicle lower than lifting it more. Lower center of gravity is a real good friend. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

good job on the hack job.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

you can cut and still keep a little of the squared look to the fenders.. that's how my nephew did his and i think it came out great.
