Hey guys, i'm getting ready to trim up my set of fenders that i have but i have one major question. I've been trying to follow y-units diagrams a little bit, with a little flavor of tRustyk5's style in there, but i would like to cut a little more towards the back of the fender but if i cut anymore then marked in the photo i would be cutting out the bottom mounting hole. So for those of you who have cut that far back, how are you re-mounting your fender? I know twoSlo4five0 cut a crap-load out, so hopefully he will chime in.. anyways all pics and ideas are welcome.. oh and here is a dark pic of where i plan to cut, so i can lower my truck a good 4-6 inches, so i can actually wheel it..

i followed the inside ridge would be easy if the fenders are off mine where on and then bent it in from the out side leaving a nice round edge that wont cut into the tire if contacted. Then could be welded to make a seamless new fender cut. i went farther on mine than you probably want but gave me alot of clearance.
check my build thread for pics
by the way sweet truck is it still to soft did you get the shocks figured out or are you lowering it to solve the issue.
Dont listen the **** talkers over on the other forum.
as for the lower bolt mine was removed aswell im going to install a dzuts (dzus correct spelling)fasaner and a little tab on the inside.

hey thanks, i went and checked it out, and the burb is looking good. could you give me a little more info about the dzuts fasteners, i've never heard of them? As for too soft deal, i'm use to the body sway now.. its not that bad at all anymore, or thou it seems. I plan on lowering it a little bit in the future, but for now i will run it the way it is set up, for the most part. I know the guys on the "other" board love the hell outta my truck but in all honesty, i would like to try and make what i have work, and if it doesn't then i'll make adjustments accordingly.

i also found these the other im probably spelling it wrong (I WAS) used on race cars for ataching the aluminum body panels and also fiberglass they look like flat head screws that are counter sunk.
I found them spelt dzus

my truck only has a 4 inch lift and on 42 is huge my friend has a blazer on a 10 inch and 38 and they sit even, im also trying to go lower or the same height it is now.Its for all around mud sand and trails no rocks as of yet.

mrdrinksalil: i havent lowered it yet, for the fact that i dont have the funds to do it right now. I still would like to see how the setup i have now will work, but i have a feeling i'm going to have to make adjustments, which usually means changing things up a bit and spending some money, which i'm pretty much tapped for the truck right now. So i figured i would do some mods that dont cost a lot, and i would still be making progress. Hopefully that makes sense.

Readymix: thanks for the pics, if you could snap a pic of your cut line in relation to the lower mounting hole of the front fender then that would be awesome. Thanks.

thanks for posting pics. So do you think i would be fine w/out that lower bolt that connects the fender by the door? If so then i'm just going to hack it off, but i dont want the fender to feel "flimsy" and not have any support so i guess that i why i was asking.

are most of ya'll hacking up the inners when u cut em off being mindful on them??? I'm kinda confused as well when it comes to how much to cut off...i found another set of fenders I'm gonna cut then install and was wonder the best way to do them...BTW, only concerned about the front fenders for now...back seem simple enough...

i'm totally ditching the whole inner fender well, and i will be creating something to replace it, but with the amount of cutting that i want to do, there would be very little stock wheel well left.

There are two mounting bolts at the bottom of the rear of the front fender, right? Its been years since I cut my fenders like that but I never had any problems with the fenders being too flimsy and I'm pretty dang sure I had to remove the forward most fender mounting bolt.

i'm pretty sure there was only one lower mounting bolt of the front fenders. I just cut as near to it as possible...which still gave me a ton of room and the lower part of the fender was secure. To keep the inner you can just trim everything below the bolts that mount the inner to the body tub.

The front part of the fender I trimmed off flush with the underside of the core support.

so what do you do with the gap between the outer skin and inner skin of the fender??? fill with foam sealer or, if you have one, weld it up??? just curious as I'm in the process of getting started on this...
