Few questions on a 88 burban

well, after looking for a long time i got one!! anyway, it has a 5.7 or at least i dont think it would have a 5.0. now would i have a th400 or 700r4? I won it, but i have not seen the truck yet. Need to take a 8 hour drive to go get it. its a 3/4 ton 4x4 what gears do you think i would have? thx mike

Being an 88, 3/4 ton and with a gas engine I would say most likely has the th400, but some came with a 700R4.
Mine was a diesel and it came with the 700R4 because the diesel needs more gears.
I don't know if they put the 4L80 in those years I think in 90 or 91 they started.
 
Should be a TH400. 4L80e began in 91. Some of the 3/4's came with the 700, but chances are better it's a 400. If it has a FF rear axle, some did, some didn't, it should be a 400. I would guess that since it's a SBC truck that it has the SF 9.5" rear. Gears will probably be 4.10 or 3.73. T-case should be a 208.
 
thx guys hope it is 4.10s. yea, i do think its a 14sf. I would not mind a 700r4 better on gas, but then from what little i know the 400 is very strong.
 
they made 6 and 8 lug 3/4 tons. if its 6 lug its got a 700r4pos if its 8 lug its got a 400, most likely a 350ci and most likely 3.73s with a gov bomb in the rear end...
 
only came with a 350 or 6.2, it would have the 400 and 208 (my 88 3/4 4x does) also 3.73 and open/open, 8 lug.

ONLY NBS rigs are 6 lug 3/4 tons...

It WILL be a SF, the FF wasnt in a burb after late 70's, early 80's(i think 81)

Gears are most likely 3.73's being its a burb.

2WD burbs had a 14bff with the 454.

My 3/4 ton burb came with the 700R4 and 4.10 gears in a 14bSF:D
 
yea, finally got it home its a th400 and with a 14bsf. So i guess it must be 3.73. Any way to tell what gears from the vin? Runs but not well and there is no rust at all!! so i kinda got lucky
