fiberglass k5 made by who?

I have to look the truck over better,,

I plan on braking her down a little to start...

how are the factory blazer transfer case, what about axles? strong or week?

how big of a tire b4 the ride sufers?

my thinking

At first glance on my k5

CHASSIS

I am going to double check all the roll cage mounting points.... I may even cut the cage free and convert to a 2 piece cage that bolts it in so I can remove the cage secion in the rear bed so if I need use the blazer as a pick up truck I can....It'd also be nice to be able to remove the tub from the frame for the build up...

I think the transfer case cross member needs to be dropped the front u joint is tuching, the rear cross member was droped 1/2 and is free...

part of me wants to build a chassis and toss the factory frame all together, but am trying not to go nuts on this one.

factory frame is not bad rust free some mountin point ears have benn added to mount the cage and are big and look as if they will suport the truck in a rollover... "first look here" needs a nice custom rad suport

BODY:

not bad at all,,,, body panel fitment is not bad and lines up ok.. Body mounting is over all good. front clip lines up and hinge works well neads to be cleaned up and reinforced where it attaches to the clip... I am also going to have to clean up the fire wall a little....
need a fiberglass factory dash board...

bumpers will be a sheat metle winch style the front clip swinging forward is going to make me keep it simple...

DRIVETRAIN

who knows at this point...

I may pull all the old train and just start with a new gm crate, tci maximizer and go for an after market transfer case... I can dump some of the old junk on ebay and the worrys of the last owner for some $$$, and rebuild the sbc for a boat I am working on.

not sure I'd benifit from a manual tranny convert as the truck will be used for pulling my boat to the ramp and mudding no hills down here rely...

axles will be used... be nice to build some dana 60's at some point..

TIRES & RIMS

I see lots of guys running 36" and 37" down here in fla and on k5 on the web.... may just go with some thing that size.

ALSO

going to need to start scaning the junk yard for a nice doner truck or trucks for: interior parts, a/c heat box, and will have to order a carpit kit.... and much much more.....:haha:

So what kind of tail gate is on there? Stock steel K5 gate?

What about the doors, too? Fiberglass ones are available, but some people still use steel.

This is just showing my own ignorance but why would someone install fiberglass panels instead of leaving the metal panels that where already there? Is there and advantage? Weight I guess? Its obviously not cheaper....

Wow if just the hole in the truck was 1500 I can't imagine what the whole thing cost! :pimp:

lol

lol

this is not a 1/4 panel swap.... it a full fiber glass tub floor and all...

I do not know when the truck was made but the fiberglass looks like it was pulled from a mold yesterday... it will never rust!!!!!! may end up a little less weight but its the rot thing...

This is a usbody and the last owner had the clip made to order to fit the newer grill.. Body parts alone with full floor tub, front clip, doors, tail gate and bed top must have cost around 10,000 to 13,000 I know from pulling the new tail light lenses, fule gage and other parts all new in the box under the seat the drive tranin was not a main prob...

how do you like the atlas????? did you have to fab the cross member change drive shafts... I have two new shafts under there from a local drive line shop

sadly i do not have a atlas, college budget doesnt allow for it:doah:

theres a couple guys running them on here.
