Finally build thread worthy material

so, rain is letting up, i may install my new retubed driveshaft this evening.

my straps and bolts look a bit "used" and I worry that one day they will round off or something. straps are ok i guess...but the bolts are looking chewed up. is it wise to replace them? if so....with what?

I hope the driveline will work out for you.

All I can say is Don't overtorque those bolts! They don't need a lot......trust me, I know! :doah:

well, im atleast of the mindset that this driveline is ONLY temporary. you gotta understand, I have put a few grand in it, and been working on it for a few months, and it hasnt left my street. I have to do something to get some sort of benefit out of it before I go crazy and sell or trade it!

anyway, yeah, i wont over torque them...I just had the notion to replace them with nice shiny bolts, and didnt know if I should do that.

Yes replace the bolts, since its probably a spicer style yoke, the straps have minimal side load pressure, so your fine. New bolts on any used parts are a damn good idea.
And I know the feeling, mine resided in my driveway for 2 LONG YEARS before it moved under it OWN power.

I'm ready to be driving it. Even if it is just to the store and back. It was totally drivable when it was stock. Ha ha ha

As far as bolts go. Can I just match em up with high grade bolts at the hardware store?

You COULD run just normal bolts, but they rub on the straps and make it a pain to tighten, thats why the stock version SHOULD look almost like a header bolt with a small built in shoulder. I've used both, and I like the correct style. ANY parts stores should be able to hook you up.

You might find good luck with allen head bolts too.

And, may I remind you, at the start of this whole thing your plan was to fix it up and drive it stock for a while before doing any major mods....

Evidently that plan didn't last very long.

This site will do that to ya...

I was wanting to do allen heads...good to know that will work.

If you only knew how many times I cursed this site. I would most likely be riding around in a stock blazer, happy and naive.....if it weren't for you guys.

I bent one stock tie rod, and somehow decided it was time for a full overhaul :haha:

Hey, more than a few of us have resisted the urge to kiss the sky.

However there's a LOT of ways to spend your money on a stockish K5.

Well, I have given myself a short term goal. My buddy is having a hunting/dirt bike riding trip on jan 13th out at his ranch. (3 hours away)

I REALLY want to have the truck ready for that trip....not perfect....just ready to make the drive.

Here is my short list:
1. high angle CV front driveshaft
2. need some custom exhaust work done to move the Y pipe out of the way of the front DS
3. spare wheel for my spare tire
4. a working drivers side seatbelt

I think if I am score those things in the next 30 days...I might be atleast driveable and ready to go have some fun.

Junkyard is your friend for spare tire/rim. I didn't have one when I got the truck so found a decent one out there for about $25 if I recall. Might even find a seatbelt assembly. MUCH cheaper than buying new.

Is your interior Red or Burgandy? Is it just your seatbelt retractor that's broken?

Yeah, but he's looking for a 16.5 . Might just be better off ordering a white wagon wheel from Summit Racing.

Put an ad on Craigslist looking for cheap 16.5" wheels. The most I have ever paid for a stock 16.5" steel wheel is $10 a piece. Generally it is $5 a piece or less.

that would be awesome...i just posted a "wanted" ad

the problem is that I cant seem to search for 16.5 x 9.75 on craigslist....

You don't need a 9.75" wide wheel. That will really make the search more difficult. Just get a factory 6" wide wheel. There was a set of 16.5x9.75" turbines on Craigslist here the other day for a $100. I passed.

"The following common or short search term was skipped: 5"

i tried that. I need to decide if I plan on running these hmmv tires for the long run. if so...then I can just order a rim from summit, knowing that I will always be running the same tires (assuming I can keep finding them)
