Finally build thread worthy material

I think im gonna pass on the tcase drop...but you are welcome to make another rear bumper like yours...or atleast give me the plans.

i talked to my cousins body shop today about cutting and rewelding the spring perches. does that need to be done with a plasma cutter? They dont have one is why i ask.

I used an angle grinder to carefully cut the welds around the perches and then beat on the perches (the side I cut) with a sledge until the the welds on the side i couldn't reach broke lose.

I just bought new perches awhile and I'm still in the process of trying to get them set up.

so is it more common to cut them off and buy new ones? I was assuming you re-used them and couldnt figure out how they wouldnt be destroyed.

I didn't have a torch so i just used what tools i had available to me. The new perches were a lot beefier anyway and were cheap through 4wd factory.

New perches are cheap. Worth the aggravation just in case you cut too much off the old ones and now have one side higher than the other. Start with new and you know they're good from the start.

The last set I did I used a torch and cut them off, cleaned it up with a grinder, welded the new perches on. After setting pinion angle of course. This was on a rear Dana 35 that was going under an S10 I did a solid axle swap on.

well, i was able to sell some old computer gear I had, and made enough to cover a SYE.

Still saving (xmas time is the worst time to try and save for anything)

but, I will be going for a CV rear shaft, and spring perches next.

Are shock mounts, and other things needed as well? or just the spring perches?

You should be able to re use the u bolts. They are still new.

Just buy new perches by themselves.

even if I go with that kit, I think I could sell my current U bolts if I had to...I wouldnt feel bad about selling them to someone, being as new as they are. Or maybe I can get a good enough price on everything else in that kit and just keep and reuse them.

So, I think I have the SYE covered...going to go with the standard one from ORD.

With that in mind...time to seek out the correct driveshaft.

I have been looking at the ones from driveshaft superstore. But that site is SUPER confusing. What do yall think? I want to do this ONCE and for all! Even it it takes another month or 2 of saving.

Im planning/saving for the new route.

The retubed shaft only made me "safer" by not allowing the yoke to slip out of the tcase. My vibration was helped just a bit, but it still makes terrible grinding noises when you go above 35-40mph and let off the gas. It was only intended to be a temporary solution. Now I can atleast drive to friends to do work on it, or drive it to a shop for estimates, etc. Before the retube, it wasnt driveable...now it is...but only for as long as those Ujoints will last.

I am making a solid list of EXACTLY what specific parts I need to do this all right. I may take me some time, but I am selling all kinds of crap at my house. FIRESALE! In hopes of getting enough money to do this right.

Oh, OK. I know the feeling. I have slight vibration and would love to do it but finances are tight (we are building a house)! Any extra cash goes there so any major improvements are down the road. I did pick up a 14SF in junkyard but don't have enough cash to rebuild it yet.....so it waits.

If you do the SYE kit, any thought on changing your speedo to the electronic (90 or 91)? I don't remember what year your truck is. If so, I think you have a choice on which SYE kit you buy.

well, got a msg from ORD....seems like nothing I need is ever on sale:doah:

But, they have fully boxed 14 bolt spring perches, they're $55/pair.

SYE from them is $340

Now, I dont plan on rebuilding the tcase, but The 241 rebuild kit is $120 and the chain kit is $110. If I am not having issues, Im not screwing myself by not doing this right? That would put me out even further.

The one thing I do need to do is replace both adapter seals, gasket to put an end to my leak.

Run up to krawltex. its right around the corner. Corn got his for something stupid cheap like 20 bucks. And if they want more i'll cut some on the plasma table and use their break to bend them.

Damn, if its that easy and cheap....that would be nice. edit - just called them...Im gonna go talk to them next week. Although, they said it might cost around $200 to do the spring perch and shock mount relocate.....

he has a k5 though, and said he might have some other options, but needs to see the rig.

I need to run over there next week while I have some days off.

Well if you buy the perches we'll weld them on at corns fo freezies.
And i'll cut shock tabs on the plasma table.

so, one thing they said (and was mentioned by another member here)

They said...I shouldnt have to do any of this stuff with a 4" lift. I explained the rough country lift gave me like 6.5" lift. They want me to bring it by to be sure, but mentioned the idea of just swapping my lift for a true 4" lift. Cost may be just a bit less than the other route...but then I could sell my current springs and maybe recoup some cost. Be on a true 4" lift, and not have to mess with the driveshaft.

Also seems like less hassle. May just have to trim the fenders more than I had planned.....thoughts?
