Finally, after months of putting it off, getting side tracked with family, projects, injured shoulder, I finally dragged the beast into the shop and did the disc swap on the 14 bolt. Only thing I felt weird about was torquing the hub/spindle nut to 50 FTLBS. This is new to me, all the old VW's were just snug and lock. Thats what I got from the 14 bolt bible on pirate though.

I also installed ORD braided drop lines all the way out to the calipers, flushed the brakes, serviced front and rear diffs, and the t-case (leaking front output shaft seal, see other thread). I also found when I pulled the cover on the 14 bolt, it has the Gov bomb locker! :D Not sure how to feel about that. I hear they are fine in a 14 bolt, I hear they will destroy the axle when they go......... I guess we will see! Here are some pics. The old drums were DONE! They were well worn with a huge ridge, right side guts covered in brake fluid and gear oil, left side packed with mud. It had only been stopping on the front brakes! Next up is fix the t-case leak, deep pan and corvette servo, fix the Check engine light, and custom exhaust in place of the leaking cobbled **** I have now. Trail ready soon I hope!

Sorry for the ****ty cell phone pics.

At least your junk runs...
Whats wrong with yours? Define "run"? LOL :D It has some running issue. I got a miss at idle, and some TBI issues. It cruises and has power on the throttle, most of the time! At idle it seems like it has a dead hole or is just really rough. I will dig into it now that I can get it around to the shop without fear of using a Honda Accord for my brakes........

I really need about 4 feet of fuel supply hose and 4 feet of fuel return hose and a battery and mine would run, but I'm waiting on my Dana60/sm465/205 to arrive. Plus, I have a "Metric Assload Ton" of new parts just waiting for a free weekend and of course the earlier mentioned hard parts to show up, and my **** will be functional.

Your pictures have inspired me to do the disc brake swap onto my rear Dana 60.
Gee, thanks! Now I got to come up with another 150 bones for the brackets, plus a set of eldy calipers.

I sat on my parts for 6 months so don't feel bad, all in good time. I got my motivation since its nice out and I want to take off the top for summer, I said F it and jumped in. :D

I got the brackets and dropline/lines from ORD, perfect fit. Price, can't remember since I bought the lines for the whole truck, dampener and steering box brace all in one shot. Stock 1/2 ton C/K10 Calipers were $18 each, plus a $22 core from Pepboys. Prostop platinum pads, $40, rotors were like $30 each. Seals were like $12. Brake caliper pins were $16 for 4. Swap was cake easy, except for the hard line on the body to the drop line that the previous owner, like everything else he touched f$^&'d up and rounded off when he swapped axles. It pained me to use vise grips on a brake line, but being 3pm on a sat and not wanting to shelve it and then replace the entire line, I made it work. With the stock master, and no adjustable proportioning valve installed, it stops great. I do have 3/4 ton calipers up front as Steve at ORD suggested to balance it out.

been running gov bom for years in 14ff axles . i love them for open to locked then back when done.

even run 38" swampers on 1 for a few years with built 400sbc no problems. that unit is still going strong also. :D

That bugged me at first but the general consensus is with an automatic, meh. Only parking brake it has now is the parking pawl. If I had a manual, I would have worried about it.
