finished resto (for now)

Looks great. Dig the color combo.

Just curious, have you painted many vehicles prior to this one? If not, would you do it again?

I'm close to painting mine and flipping back and forth between taking it on myself and letting someone else do it.

That is a nice paint job. My K5 will need a paint job in the next few years. The pearl white base/clear over red paint that the PO's friend did is now starting to peel. It showed off just a hint of red when the light hit the white paint.

I am in the middle of spraying primer on my engine bay and various engine parts, for my 79 C20. I am hitting the bare metal with etch, then everything with fill primer and black base and satin clear. It is a lot of work, but I think it will look very nice. I have only done small auto paint projects, never more than a hood or interior of a truck. That is pretty cool that you were able to do that in your garage. I couldn't fit my trucks in my garage, even if I took all the tools out of it.

Looks good.

Hey someone else back in the day had that same avatar. Anyone remember who? :)

Thanks alot i appreciate it it took forever if i can give any advice( i learned this the hard way) if your gonns use a two part urethane base clear stay away from rattle cans for primer most are enamel and it will peel when u put paint on thankfully i learned this before paint went on but i had to sand it all off nd reseal and prime. Use a 2k primer you mix with hardener youll be much happier with the results. Are u gonna post a thread of your build?

Thanks for the heads up on the primer. I am using a fill primer with hardener from a quart can, and my etch primer was from a quart too. I did hit a few small parts with rattle can primer, oh and the bottom side of one fender. I guess I'll go back and hit those with fill primer. I did fill prime over a couple engine brackets that had rattle can primer and they look fine so far.

I thought about doing a build thread for my pickup, but I am kind of all over the place with the truck. It has a bunch of nice upgrades that I have already done. It was/is a daily driver but it always needs more maintenance or small projects. I did shoot more pics of it today, just in case I want to do a build thread.

My K5 isn't anything special and I have replaced the engine, tcase, rebuilt rear end, already had lift, wheels, and tires, and I also did a nice stereo a number of years ago. It needs a CV rear shaft, front diff gears in 4.88, AC rebuild to 134, and paint down the road.

My pickup has the built 406 and Th400, gear vendors overdrive, factory 14bff, air bags, custom seat upholstery, newer carpet, headliner redone by me, aluminum ladder rack and tool boxes, nice stereo, aftermarket plastic brushed aluminum gauge bezel, autometer 5" pro comp ultralight gauges, etc.

I was reading some build threads last night. I don't get into that section that often. Maybe I'll start one and just post some pics.

I shot fill primer on the engine bay today. The fill isn't going to hide as many imperfections as I had hoped, but it still looks mighty nice with the satin sheen of the fill primer, and my clear coat will be satin finish. I knew it wouldn't be smooth as a babies butt, but it beats the crap out of the finish I got out of using POR 15. I am in love with the DA sander too. I hadn't used one before.

I am kind of wandering off the OP's topic and on to my own so I'll wrap up. Damn, I have just about started a build thread right here. :doah::woot:
