Fire Extinguishers

So if you were out on a trail, had a fire inside the cab, got it put out, would you want to ride in the cab with the the chemical while it gets towed off the trail, or possibly driven out? The truck has to be dealt with somehow, and making things even slightly less toxic would be a plus. I have been around plenty of burned vehicles in the past, not pleasant.
So I personally am fine with buying something else to have along which may be less toxic to deal with. Obviously not everyone will agree.
I had to drive my freightliner after I had a fire inside the cab, and for 2 hours I had my head outside the window so I could breathe.
I don't know which was worse, the powder from the extinguisher or the melted plastic fumes.
When I got home I cleaned it as best I could and removed all burned parts, but I still had some lingering powder here and there for a year.

So you ordered a few then? One to test for us, Dave?
I ordered 2, but I am not going to jump to test one out immediately. I want to do some more digging around for tests or feedback. And I would have to get input from ya'll to make sure that I have all of the data angles considered and covered before lighting it off. I would possibly forget to push record or something. :doah:
But the thought is there..

So here's a question. Is anyone using underhood suppression systems?

Most new boats are coming with them, but these engine compartment are a more contained condition, so they would work really well.

Does this company make anything big enough for our engine compartments?

What? How does that work? That tube heats and explodes putting out the fire?

I have a 3lb with purple K in it behind the seat, and carry another 5lb in the "box" in the back with the emergency stuff. The purple K is supposed to excel at hydrocarbon fires, ie. gas, oil, etc. The 5lb. in the back is your standard Amerex ABC. I always looked at it like this. If something burns up, I don't want to be the one who is saying, I almost had enough to put it out. Doesn't take that much space to carry the big one.

Also, when I had these refilled a few months ago, the guy who did it said that as long as the gauge is showing pressure the extinguisher will work. According to him, who fills them for a living, you don't need to have them recharged every couple of years if they are holding pressure. He told me this because I was paying cash to fill six 5 lb ones for my house/garage and he felt bad for me. So take that for what it's worth.

Do you have a link for that extinguisher?

Yep, basically. Haven't looked into it a ton. But those VW vans are famous for catching fire, and its a super easy install and confined area for the thing to extinguish.

Well duh look who they are catering to the yuppies driving the new SUVs, if they paid $40-60k for the suv they will pay whatever these guys ask for them
H3r extinguishers are not catering to the overland crowd. They make extinguishers. Nothing more.
That is just a YouTube channel for yuppies.

The h3r stuff is nice. But a bit overpriced.

Ya think??? $240 for a 2.5 lb extinguished is nuts. I can buy 4 Element extinguishers for that price. They'd take up the same space, weigh much less, and put out a hell of a lot more fire.

H3R extinguishers your looking at are halotron. The standard abc is more reasonable. But still twice what I can buy a amerex for.

I just bought 2 of these also. In my burb, i wrap in a towel and stash under the back seat. Going to see if i can make the brackets fit....

I've also mounted this style bracket to the floor right behind the front seats in work trucks, but my burb is too nice for that.
Just ordered two amerex 2.5 with a decent holder for the blazer and the other for whatever, home or something.
