I have seen lots of cages in my searches but it barely seems like anyone sends the feet to the frame. I cant seem to narrow it down to find it in Greg's thread but how do people attach cages to the frame in first gen blazers?

I have to do one here at the shop and don't want to do something stupid.
It's pretty typical a b c pillar type cage.

Any sliders?
We attached to the down tubes for sliders then just built some frame mounts for the rear.

The rocker boxes are a huge pain.

This is the rear. Pretty conventional frame to body mount

This is the b pillar mount.

Without sliders you might need to build a mini tube slider under the mounts.

I think the reason you see fewer first gens without frame mounted cages is those rocker boxes.

I'd talk the customer into sliders lol

A pillar we went to the sliders, through the body and did those removable things in the cage.

B we went to the floor and the did a piece bolted from the floor welded to the sliders. Ended up taking off the back of the floor box support things and going to the sliders through it.

C same thing bolted to the the floor built a tube that bolted to the floor that was welded to the frame.

Basically sandwiched the floor in between for the B, C.

If it doesn't have sliders, build them. If you choose not to you are going to have a long stringer from where the cage hits the floor to the frame. which is what the sliders really are.
One thing on those years you start unbolting the boxes and stuff and the body bends, easily, real easily. Don't expect the body to be even close to being square either. Sean's is like 3/4 of an inch off from side to side with a tape measure, looks great visually. The body is way off.

Eric has pictures.......

If you are attaching to the frame you could do away with the torsion boxes. Unless the customer wants to keep them that badly.

Correct. The torsion boxes are to keep the body from folding up like a taco when the top is off. Cage takes care of that.

Good tips guys.We are definitely doing sliders but they are going to be steps really. Much like my blazer just angled down for stepping.

Planning on a pillar bolt plates to the floor and from the floor to the frame.

Can I just cut a 4" hole in that box for access?

After watching Sean's body move while removing the rocker boxes, I don't think you should ever take them out with a conventional cage. Something tied in to the body in several different places at several different heights yes, but I would take em out until I had those attachments.

If I were to take the rocker boxes out I would brace the A and B pillar on the truck before I took em out.

But I've only done 2 cages in first gens. So I could be way off here

The body needs to be secured to the cage up near the firewall area if you remove the rocker boxes. Just adding a cage won’t do much if it isn’t attached to the body in that area. I have mine tied in high up on the footwell and it’s been doing well.

The body won't move much during removal if your in the shop bracing isn't necessary. I drive mine on road right now with no torsion boxes but it does move.
I agree the firewall needs to be tied in as well. I would put poli mounts to the frame as well to keep the flex. I've always found metal's stronger when it's not welded rigid.

Do you have any pics of your footwell area?

Nice! I forgot you went through the dash.
