Hey everyone,

New guy here planning a build and looking for advice. I have a 70 k5 that I want to do my first ls swap on. My k5 originally came with a 4 speed and I want to keep it a manual. I have an opportunity to buy a donor truck: 2001 Silverado with a 4.8 and nv3500 4x4. Anyone have experience with this engine trans combo? I’ve owned a few trucks with the 5.3 & love that engine. This might make some on you cringe...my blazer will be a fair weather cruiser/summer daily driver type vehicle and will see 0 off-road use.

Transfer case will like be a np241 or np208.

Think the 4.8/nv3500 will be a good fit for what I’m building?

Some one will come along at some time to reply. I am not an LS swap expert myself, but there are some here that LS swaps are all they believe any engine bay should have. here is a picture of the engine I put in my truck. Just an old school Gen-1/350 crate engine.

I put it into this...

Your truck looks great! Always liked the crew cab square body’s.

I’d be embarrassed to admit how many times I’ve went back and forth on the drivetrain for this k5. Old school - 350/sm465 then 6.0/nv4500 then 4.8/nv3500 then 350/nv4500 haha all over the place!! Want to do it cost effective but I’m also restoring the entire blazer and want to make the major changes now. I have a chevelle that will always be old school bbc/Muncie, I think the LS thing has its advantages since I want to do power tour and take my boys on road trips.

The advantage those modern engines have is that they make more power with less effort. You can have a 400 cubic inch Chevy Gen-1 spinning at 4500 RPM get beat by a modern 300 cubic inch aluminum hemi headed engine turning at the same 4500 RPM.

I have an np208 in Columbus OH if you’re looking for one. I bought a 700r4 to rebuild and use with the np205, so I have no need for the np208 that came with it. It’s on Columbus CL. I can send on a pallet if needed. Best offer!
