i went out on a 30 hour tuna trip last week. i finally got out on an early trip and had the chance to catch some mahi while the water is still warm. we stopped and drifted by many of the commercial lobster pots on the way out to the canyon. there's just enough shadow from each buoy to hold 5-10 mahi. they jump on anything that floats by and were fun to catch on light tackle.

this is the first time i've ever seen them in person and they have to be about the most beautiful fish on the planet. they are iridescent and shimmer gold, green, yellow and blues as they come out of the water. there's no way a pic or description can capture how they look. sadly, the colors go away almost as soon as they hit the deck.

here's a pic of my best mahi, about a 12 pounder. unfortunately the tuna weren't biting. besides the mahi, the whole boat only caught on yellowfin and one swordfish.

my boss is going to the canyon tuesday.... those guys are usually good for a 1/2 dozen 90+ lb yellow fins, etc.. means I'll be eating tuna alot next week.... :D

canyon sportfish rigs have always been a big part of my job... I work on that sh*t daily, more in the past than recently... here's the boat they'll be running.. a 36 Albamarle

if any of your guys need an extra hand or have space for one more to split costs give me a yell. i'm always looking to get out, especially during the week.

heck, they don't even invite me... :doah:

I've had plenty of other opportunities in the past, it's just not something I'm into... I do freshwater when I'm camping... :haha:
