First Vehicle... *pictures*

Make sure you check the steering box and for cracks around the box on the frame. Looks like you scored a sweet deal! Have a blast man. Hell of a buy!

If my K25 looks that good when I finish, I'll be very happy :D

I'm sure it will, I'll get some detailed shots for you guys later tonight.

I drove it to school today and it's great on the highway, it tracks straight and once the lugs get movin' fast enough it's actually a pretty smooth ride. Anything under 15mph and you rattle around buy I actually love that part about the truck.
I think for $3500 it's not a bad deal at all. Besides having a properly built name brand lift on it and some expensive shoes the engine is great, this morning it was about 40* out and we pumped it twice and turned the key for about 2 to 3 seconds and it fired right up. It idled slowly for a few seconds and then came to life and ran without a problem for about an hour and a half (I didn't say I went straight to school) ;)

I'll keep you all posted on what happens to it.

CONGRAT's !!!!

Enjoy that thing every time you drive it. You are starting out your 4x4 life in a good way by reading up and talking to other fello enthusiest . I wish I had a source like CK5 when I was a teenager learning about what makes what tick on my truck.
Just a note - forget about putting hard earned money in a savings account - that truck will forever now be your investment portfolio........ Welcome to our world.......

Good luck and enjoy that cool ride !

lol, tell me about it, the plans that I have for it in the near future include:
Interior
Sub enclosure under the seat
Fender Trimming & bushwacker flares
and finally a 14b rear
so I already know what your talking about $$$ wise, it hasn't been as bad on gas as I thought it would be though, I've driven it for about 3 hours total around town and on the freeway and I'm halfway through my left tank so I don't know what mpg I'm looking at but it's not going to be terrible (that is living at home w/ the same afterschool job at the local hobby shop that paid for the truck) ;)

If I can convince the mom, I'm going to grab my dad and head out for memorial day weekend for it's first real outing, I'm afraid to do much until I get that 14b in but I shouldn't have a problem finding one, rebuilding it and installing it before then. I'll be sure to let you know next time we head that direction.

Don't worry guys, I'll post some pictures asap.
I will be on the hunt for a 14 bolt (hint, hint, keep your eyes open in this area), if I find one I'll snag it up and throw it in the rear, I'm also researching what gears to put in it but for now all I'm worried about is getting it here.

-Avery

Dude, I got a 14Bolt that you can have. Kindof far from Fresno to San Diego though.

I wish I had a source like CK5 when I was a teenager learning about what makes what tick on my truck.

No ****, brother. I hope kids nowadays appreciate how lucky they are to have a reference like CK5 available to them 24/7. It sounds like this dude does, for sure.

Hmm that sounds like a great deal, actually thats not too bad of a drive. I'll talk to my dad and see if he wants to make a trip down there. Is it stored out of the way or are you needing it gone asap?

-Avery

I got a pair of them sitting in my yard. They are not going anywhere, and they ain't for sale. With the price of fuel these days, make sure it makes sense, but if you want one and you want to come down here, it's yours. BTW, 3:73 gears, open.

Holy crap. I need to see more, in detail pictures of that thing. By the looks of it, whoever had it before you actually took care of it, unlike most of our trucks on here. That's a helluva deal and a very nice first car. Good luck with it, and be sure to have fun!

I will get some pictures up for you all soon, I got a little distracted this evening...my dad and I went for a drive and half of my left tank and all evening later we just got home.
I'm sure I'll have tons of questions for you all but for starters here's two of them.....
1) when we got home we mashed the brakes (this thing stops on a dime for how big those shoes are) and when we pulled in front of the house and shut the engine off we all got out (took my sis for a ride) and I hit the button for the power door locks (which still work!) and it didn't work, so I checked my cd player and lights....nothing. I popped the hood and saw that the wires to the battery were loose from our outing so I tightened them up being careful not to strip the housing (it felt like a pretty soft metal) and everything works great now, my question is can I use thread lock (blue) or is this an uncommon problem?
2) Last question for tonight but it's a killer....when we drive everything still feels super tight (steering and drivetrain) but something we've noticed is that when we rack up the rpm's (by ear, no tac yet) it doesn't want to shift from 1st to second regardless of temperature, when you let off of the throttle for just a split second it'll shift perfectly. The other gears do something similar. My dad said it felt and sounded like a pressure issue, (something of which I'm not as farmiliar with) and he said that a vaccuum is pulled off of the engine for the tranny and it didn't feel like it was pulling @ the proper pressure. Is there a rebuild kit or what should we check out?
Thanks guys and I promise that I'll get some detailed pictures soon.

-Avery

mine does the same thing on te transmission it went out and i put a rebuilt did the same thing as the first one but adjusted the down shift cable and shift great so id think of adjusting your cable and seeing if that works

What a day! I helped move my uncle today and ended up driving across town for hours and hours. I drove to my grandma's house and tossed her up in the cab and even took her for a spin. My dad and I grabbed a hand-full of quarters and headed to the wash station, we pressure washed the entire truck and it looks great now.
The shifting problem hasn't become a problem but it's something that I'm sure I'll want to fix before it's serious. My dad listened to it a little more and he suggested that regardless of if it will fix the problem I should look into putting a shift kit on. What do you guys think? I'm sure that once I get proper axles and gearing it'll help a lot, I'm really worried about running around town without a tac so I'm going easy on it. I'm going to try to get one in soon.
Chevyin... Modulator valve?

chevyin said:
Sounds like a bad modulator valve.

I second that! Check the short rubber line that connects the hard vacume line to the modulator for cracks (air leaks) The modulator is cheap and easy enough to change to just do anyway. Its kind of a bell shaped part bolted to the front and bottom of the transmission.

Sounds like something worth while to replace, I'll get dressed and go crawl under the truck to check it out.
Do you all think that a shift kit is a worth while upgrade or should I just look into getting a proper gear ratio first?
Thanks again to everyone for all your help.
