No ****, brother. I hope kids nowadays appreciate how lucky they are to have a reference like CK5 available to them 24/7. It sounds like this dude does, for sure.

i am another very very greatfull ck5er

by the way man sweet ride....i also bought my blazer on my own with an afterschool and summer job with no mommy and daddy help...feels good huh?

what transmisson is it? prolly a 350. get it working right then when it finally goes down the road worry about a shift kit when getting ti rebuilt. unless your dad and you can install the kit i wouldnt worry about it.

What tranny do you have? if its a th350 it will be on the rear side of the tranny and ya just has a vacume hose going to the end of it. A shift kit is never a bad idea and for how much they cost and how long they take to install its defently worth it. More than likely id bet thats not your shifting problem though. It probly is as the others said a bad vacume modulator, or imporperly adjusted throtle valve cable. As far as axels, gearing and all that...Keep in mind that if you do the 14bltff you will need new wheels wich means mismatched front and rear wheels, or a 8 lug front convertion and all four new wheels. So first things first you should find out exactly what gears you have and se if you can find a 12blt to through under there wich would only be a small up grade but still beter than the 10 bolt, and still 6 lug. even better would be a 6lug 14bltSF out of like a mid 90's light 3/4 ton pickup. they are a 3/4 ton but are still 6 lug. Id say idealy you should be runing 4.88's or so with those tires. And yes that 10 bolt will give up the gost quite easly i have read more than once on here about guys blowing them up on the street with 35's just becasue of a hard shift takin off from stop lights. so you can take it to the dunes but i wouldent do anything but just drive around out there no hills, etc. All that being said NICE SCORE DUDE!! you'll love that truck!

Thanks y5mgisi, yeah my dad and I were discussing the wheel/lug issue last night and I hadn't decided what I would do yet.
I'll head off to the parts store soon and pick up a new modulator and see how that helps.
Something else that I was going to look into is a tranny cooler, I was reading that in situations like mine where I'm not running ideal gearing its a good idea.
Oh and
79k20350 it goes down the road perfectly fine I'm just paranoid about having to let off a touch for it to shift the first time.

sorry for lack of punctuation, i ment after it goes, down the road worry about the shift kit. i dont think you kick down cables the problem though, you could take that off of the transmisson and it will still up shift fine, the cable is only to downshift the tranny when you really get on it (say your in third and doin 45 and floor it, thats what kicks the tranny down to 2nd)

Yeah I agree thats not the problem, trust me :wink1:
I crossed my fingers and said a little prayer for the 10 bolts and mashed the throttle a time or two and it'll downshift just fine, it lurched forward and as I got those big meats rolling it upshifted perfectly.
Thanks

Try again, you clicked on the link before I fixed the tags. It works now. I know thats what you all are talking about I just wanted to let everyone know the status of things.
Now that I'm on my way to fixing the shift issue I have found another one, I was looking under the truck and I'm leaking some serious fluids, its all built up under the pan and it's all oil so I'm going to pull the cover off and check any seals while I'm at it replacing the modulator. I'll let you all know how it goes.

-Avery

yep thats it. Get the stock one prolly save a few bucks, and check the vacuum line to the modulator make sure it's not broken somewhere.

Alright, I'll pick one up next time were out.
My dad and I just got back from another exciting evening of driving all around town to show the people who are important to me the new ride. The truck has been driven pretty hard (as hard as you can on the street and dirt shoulders of the roads ;)) and it still feels great. The steering is tight and responsive and the only thing that is bothering me still is that shift point.
As I think I said earlier she's spewin' oil like mad but my dad and I found out why, or at least one of the reasons why. I checked the oil and it was super low so I filled her up with some fresh but while I was doing that I noticed that the dip stick tube was moving, I was able to pull it out a few inches but I stopped because I didn't want to pull it out. So I'm sure that's where most of it is being dumped.
I know that I promise every night but trust me, soon I'll get some detailed shots of the truck for you all and post them up.

Some shift kits are designed to raise the shift points to where it is hard to get enough rpm to make a 1-2 shift at WOT. Maybe somebody already put a shift kit in this vehicle.

That's a great point I never thought about the idea that he might have done a shift kit already, I'll see what I can find out.

Well as promised I decided to brave a break in the storm and head outside after school today to snap some pictures of the truck for you guys since the only shots you've seen have been at night the evening that I got it. Instead of pictures I just decided to shoot a short movie of everything then if you want detailed shots I'll get those uploaded too. Enjoy!

Nice! Just acouple things i noticed, the front shocks seem to be maounted funny, and its a two wheel drive.

I'll post some close-up high resolution pictures tomorrow and you can tell me what looks wrong with the shocks.
Yeah it's a two wheel drive truck as of now, I just drive it in 2high until I can get Tom Woods to cut me a dual CV drive shaft when I have the $$$.
Thanks for looking at it!

That is one cool ride man. Looks like someone has been burnnin som rubber on those back tires! Thats one nice rig man I can't say that enough. ENJOY

Good Lookin pickup man. Yeah it looks like the front shocks are mounted on Ford towers or something higher than the frame. Cool twisty paint driveshaft:laugh:

More than likely the transmission is not a TH350, but a 700R4. Does the the selector read PRNDL or PRNDDL? A quality repair manual will save you lot$$$$ (yes thats thousands) of money. Also check the "search" tab above.:D

Very true, and there's no substitute for the factory manual, although the usual price of about $70 new can sometimes makes a new guy's heart skip a beat (but you can often beat that used, sometimes in near-mint shape). Diagnostic flow charts, complete wiring diagrams, and all sorts of things you don't get in the cheaper manuals.

Thanks for the compliments guys, roadnotca it reads PRNDD21.
I just got home from school so I'll post up some detailed shots shortly of the truck.
