I sent my fitech unit in for repair and they emailed me back and I paid 339.38 to have a new ecu put on it.

This is what they said
"We have inspected the unit and it will need a new ecu, it failed under a heat soak not delivering enough power to handheld."

I will call and ask em monday how do I make sure this dont happen again?

I am glad its only 339.38 to fix and looking forward to putting it back on

Heat soak with the ECU under the hood seems to me like an engineering issue. Probably causes you more trouble because the Texas heat

Doesn’t help with the under hood heat, but would keep it from direct transferring the heat from the engine via adjacent metals

I’d probably look for a 4 hole version

I would also ask them more in depth about the issue. What in the ECU failed, and how did they determine it was heat soak. Be interesting to know. They will know all of the component operating range specifications, hopefully they will tell you.

And I think you will all continue to want to know. In my opinion, FiTech isn't very forthcoming in information. I don't know if they are too busy, or don't want to admit they may have cut some corners (like in the gauge of wiring used). The most helpful resource on FiTech I've found is site called FITech EFI tuning forum. There's a handful of guys on there that know an awful lot about those units.

How old was your unit? You do realize that the ECU is pretty much the only thing that can be faulty, right? A couple injectors and some wiring to preexisting sensors is about it!

Three years isn't long. It's not the money, it's the potential headache if that thing took a crap on the dirt road 40 miles from nowhere and then you have to wait to send it in and get a repair or replacement. I have a 600 hp unit in my truck that I worry about that happening to mine. There's probably a reason the OEM's dont have the ECU mounted on top of the engine, and heat and vibration are, I'm sure, considerations. That being said, there's tons of FiTech and other brand units that are working 5, 6, 7 or more years without issues. Hopefully they will give you some guidance on how to avoid this...and you will fill us all in!

ya when i go on wheeling trips i will keep this carb and all parts to swap over, be a pain but id rather have it and not need it

Fitech garbage
Sorry but I have had 3 units fail
Switched to holly
What were your failures? I have a 600hp unit on my small block and always had it in the back of my mind that it could go bad. Honestly makes me think I should go ls in the near future

Fuel Leaks, losing memory, always running too rich
And never consistent idol and sometimes starving for fuel
Mild engine

I'm starting to see the same thing. Fuel surges, inconsistent idle. I'm running a milder rv cam, around 10:1 compression. I guess you get what you pay for

I know my Holley Sniper has had firmware updates. Last time I did one, I swear it was an improvement. Might be worth checking to see if your FiTech units have firmware updates.

They do , but fitech is a pain in the ASS to get it done. you have to download drop box then a program to open the zipped file and it took me over 2 hours just to get ready to update

Is holley a pain in the ass to update?
It wasn't particularly hard. Load the firmware on the microSD card and put it in the handheld. Then update the handheld followed by the ECU.

There are extra steps if you want to save your current tune, but there's a pretty good video on YouTube from Holley.
