The thing with China made stuff is the QA. One of the big manufactures of LEDs for our signs had a rash of power supply failures. If we had someone call about an LED sign not lighting, we would figure it was probably one of their power supplies and 9 out of 10 times it was. They fixed the problem by hiring someone to be on site at the factory in China to manage the QA.
After that story I've been hoping some of the better car parts companies are doing the same thing.
Off tangent side note. There are several American bass and guitar lines that have import lines, some built in China. Some of the best instruments I’ve played. It’s all about the QA
One of my friends and member here @B_to_C did his MBA thru an international program in China. I remember him commenting about in the US factories you see posters talking about quality but in the Chinese factories you see posters about the importance of quantity and nothing about quality.
I’d venture to bet most of the components for all the after market ones are built in China Pretty good chance the others (OEM) are too if not already made in Mexico or Canada eh
I think there's a well known politician who had a plank in his platform about bringing manufacturing jobs back to the US so we're not dependant on other countries for our way of life. Hits harder than ever in light of recent events.
I noticed the other day my Gates hydraulic hose is made in Mexico. I can get that, but how can it possibly be cheaper to ship landscaping rock from China than to dig it up here? Even given the human rights issues with cheap labor, we're talking rocks getting shipped across the ocean! That's just wrong.
