I have a 69 with a ZZ5 crate and a 700r4. The ZZ5 came with a 770 Holley with vacuum sec. I've heard good things about the Fitech EFI. Anyone have experience with Fitech and the pros & cons of EFI TB vs Carb?
Thanks

There are a few of us here that have fitech.

I have it and have enjoyed it. If your carb is matched for what you are running and has been tuned, it should be working great. If it hasn't the efi could get you some good improvements. But if you have anything that a carb could cover up such as vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, etc the efi could expose those issues.

If you do invest in fitech, don't go with their fuel command center, or any of their pumps for that matter. There are better options depending what route you were going to go.

I have been running my fitech since about June of 2016. After a software update in 2017 I've not had any problems from it.

The biggest positives of going from carb is how it performs off road and how easy it is to start up.

For the fuel delivery, I've been running a walbro inline pump the whole time and have yet to have an issue. It's quiet and it has worked fine crawling in traffic on 100° day. I haven't had problems that some will let you know about, but I would say I've only put about 3k miles on the fitech and 5k on the pump.

@skunked and @72gmck5 could give you their opinions on it based on personal experiences as well.

Had mechanical tach issues and I'm having trouble with ported vacuum but I have had it running good just still working the bugs

I am running the Holley Sniper EFI, and so far i like it. I daily drive my 72 so it was a no brainer going TBI. Its pretty simple to set up, and im assuming the FiTech isnt much different than the holley. Only thing id do differently is run an in tank pump rather than an inline.

I have it runs great, doubled my gas mileage. No more cold start issues, no more hot start issues.
make sure your leak free on your exhaust the system is sensitive and will pick up small leaks
get bigger than you need.

I run the 600hp kit with timing control on my (BBC) truck and I'd do it all over again if given the opportunity. As mentioned already, the environment has everything to do with how well it will run. Exhaust leaks, voltage drops, vacuum leaks, miss fires, fuel pressure etc. will cause issues whereas the carb will run fine. However the EFI will run better than any carb out there. I've also installed FiTech on a built SBC stroker and a ZZ502 FWIW.

and don't run the fuel command center, get a quality inline pump or better yet run a in tank pump (ep381 or equivalent). Lot's of kits are becoming available to drop in pumps on tanks that were not designed to run an in tank pump setup.

If you have any other specific questions just ask.

Also on fuel pump +1 the in tank pump,
Stay away from Fcc they suck

I run a Holley Sniper on a 454 and it's doing fine 1 year and about 3000 miles later. I had a 700r4 (now a 4l80e) and I had to tinker with the throttle valve cable a little to get it where I was happy with the shift points. I finally got it perfect right before I pulled it out. Haha.

I hooked everything up and it has been running great ever since (except when my install failed it.) I would hands down recommend EFI over carburetors for every occasion. I have between 2000-3000 miles on my set up. Running the base 400hp FiTech with a newer blazer tbi tank with EP381 in tank. Make sure to secure the pump with extra hose and good clamps, it sucks when you don't get fuel.

I run one. I'm pretty happy overall.

Make sure you're dialed in with no leaks.

@ekajkrats Is right, skip the FCC. Get yourself an in-tank system, or put a pump on the frame.

I just got back from the Smoky Mountain Overland Rally and knocked down 10.7 mpg with 35s, 4.56 gears and no OD.

Thanks for all the input. I run a 700r4, 33s & 3:78 gears and cant seem to get any better than 10mpg. Hoping to improve on that with the fitech. I know its not a Prius but I wouldn't mind a little better mpg .
