Flaring tool recommendations

The problem i see with the Eastwood flaring tool is you HAVE to use a vice in order to use it. The Mastercool flaring tool can be used to do a flare with the line still attached to the vehicle.

That is a fall back as I too have needed to flare tubing while still on a vehicle. But I've only rarely needed that ability. All of the reviews for the Eastwood have been pretty good.

Not everyone has a bench vise but that only means they get to buy 2 new tools. :D

Alot of the brands are very similar. True you do get what you pay for. You might get small lines where the 2 halfs of the die meets up on cheaper one that arent exaclty the tuing diameter you need. I have used many of them. currently I have a snap-on one which works great. You need to decide what degree of flares you want to be able to make, there are also double and single flares. One of the biggest keys to making a good flare is proper tubing preparation. You need a clean 90deg cut and to debur the inside and outside of the tubing to prevent cracks and deformation. Even with cheap msc, grainger, and harbor freight brands I have been able to get nice flares with good tubing preparation. If you dont plan on doing to many in the future I would go with a cheap one, do some practice flares and if it still doesnt come out good just return it and say it was making defective flares.

ok...i'm about to pick up the mastercool set now...i really like that...good stuff here
