Ok so I was in auto zone looking around as my buddy got power steering fluid, saw some exaust pipe that was flexible. Does anyone know anything about it? how does it hold up?

I would love to put headers on, but I dont have money to have a whole exaust ran, if I can use this stuff and just attach it to my headers and run it and hang hangers where I can, I might be able to swing it.

I've seen that stuff too. I think it is pretty temporary and to run it all the way back far enough to be safe you are still probably in it for a bit of cash. It still might be cheaper to have a muffler shop just fab something up. Or, you can by straight pipe and just have a muffler shop do the connection between the straight pipe you have run and the headers.

We did that ten years ago on my 78 shortbed, headers, flexpipe and glasspacks then elbows and straight pipe out the side with flex hangers......It lasted a while and didnt leak, also was loud like that but it worked until i got the cash to do the job....im not saying to do it but the short pieces we used worked, we used a 3ft piece and cut it in half....it was enuf to connect the headers to the glasspacks....

That flex pipe is meant for a tail pipe application. I've used it to connect my headers to the rest of the exhaust though untill I could afford the new system. It worked ok. It eventually cracked at one of the coils. But up to that point I had no problems. Oh, and once it gets a few heat cycles in it...it won't flex anymore.

flex pipe like that is a factory app on the big rigs from turbo to the ATD to the stack, all depends. after a few years though it does start to develop leaks around the coils so your regular piping is definatly better stuff

I was thinking of running whole length of it, from the headers back to a set of glasspacks.

I didnt clarify at first, this would be temp, prob a year or so, next summer I should be set enough to have a whole exhaust ran professionally, right now, id like to throw a set of headers on, and some better sounding mufflers.

Just use the flex to get you to point where you can run straight pipe. I wouldn't run it for an entire length. Ive done it a few times and it will hold up fine for a while, but its not a permanent solution.

if you knew exactly what u needed to connect the headers to the mofflers i would bend em for you ....the tubing is cheap(20.) at the exhaust shop i work at...a few bucks for the shipping, and the tubing....its all good let me know....it would be enuff from me to connect the headers to the mufflers, thats about it tho. more than that would be too much to ship.

but what i said might now work if my bends arent correct it might be a hassle and the kit above is cheap for all you get..

Do you have dual exhaust already? Leave your existing pipes in place, install the headers, and just use the flex to connect up to your existing system.

I use a 2' chunk of flex after the manifolds and just bolt the exhaust pipe to the frame. I got stainless steel flex from the semi shop, nice stuff. Get the clamps you need there too. it keeps the exhaust out of harms way.

Says it is for a pickup, would this work with blazers?

yes, you just have to cut down one of the straight sections of pipe, super easy.

I went through this on my old 84 shortbox when i installed headers, the exaust shop wouldnt hook them up because i had no cat, I bought the flex and had 12" pieces from the collector to the existing exaust, a week later and it was leaking, total crap.

Hey thanks alot, have you, or anyone used one of these pre fabbed kits before?
Does anyone have a picture or two of how their true duals are run? To keep them tucked up and all.

Thanks alot

I've got that system on my K5. Went together fairly well. I screwed up by welding the muffler to the pipe before cutting it to length. That put my mufflers to far back and I had issues with the tailpipes. I got it worked out though. I could have prevented that problem by trial fitting first. I also have used one of their kits for my 77 K20, no issues with that one.
