ok i just rebuilt my rockchester monojet carb for my 250 inline 6. it ran ok befor i rebuilt it and now it wont start unless your on the gas and once it starts i can rev it to high rpm's but as soon as i let off gas sprays everywhere and it dies. it also wont idle and runs real rough when its first started. any ideas on what i screwed up. the rebuild went pretty smooth very few actual parts to replace.

just some info. its a 78 250 1 barrel. i put a new float in and adjusted it a couple times and it did the same thing.

i also messed with the adjusting screw and it didnt make much of a diffrence either.

any ideas would be great i dont know where to go from here

I'd guess the float too,the needle valve might not be the same as the old one,did you replace both the needle and seat with new parts,or try to cheat and only use just the needle?...float has to be adjusted for level and drop correctly too,be sure your measuring from the right spot on the carb and float..float might be full of gas too,if you reused the old one,it might be sinking...

Another hard to diagnose carb issue I created for myself once when a carb that ran "ok" but needed a new accelerator pump would just flood over after I rebuilt it,and I took it apart about 10 times to re-do the float settings and see if it was sinking,etc--then I realized the carb kit came with about 4 different bowl gaskets and I had installed one that had passages blocked off, when compared to my old gasket!--I found the one that matched my old one and put it in,and Ta-DA,no more floods!...I found a few carbs someone else had rebuilt that also had that "wrong" gasket installed, and it took me awhile to realize the "old" gasket was the "wrong" one,and I simply copied their mistake by matching the new gasket to the incorrect one!..I put one of the other gasets in that had open passages in it and it ran perfect !..

well i put a new float needle and the tube thing the needle goes into and adjusted the float sevral times and it kept doing the same thing. i even made it where the bowl would have hardly andy fuel in it and should stall once i opened it up but it still flooded out. i think i might try to put the old float needle and tube thing that the needle goes in and see it it makes a diffrence. i came with two diffrent gasket but i could have swore i got the right one but i might switch them out to see what happens

ok got it figured out, they gave me the wrong style needle tube thing. the tube the needle on the float goes into. mine was solid all the way up but the one they gave me had to notches cut out at the bottom idk why seems like a terrible idea lol. i just threw my old tube down in there and she ran the best she ever has so thanks for your guys help on this stuff. ck5 all the way
