Floor Jack and Jack Stands

sears 3 ton floor jack and sears and ac delco 6 ton stands... ac stands i get at oreilly auto parts...

Harbor Freight 3 ton jack and 6 ton jack stands. Jack doesn't go extremely high, not near as high as my Dad's NAPA 3 ton, but for ~1/6th the price I can stack a block on the pad every now and again when needed. :waytogo:

3 or 3.5 ton from costco. Spend decent money, $100-150?

Stands? Get the 12 ton stands from harbor freight with teh coupon.

They freaking rock.

the 12T HF stands are hard to beat cuz of the cost... not great quality, but it's a freakin jackstand..

I probably wouldn't recommend their floorjacks, i do know a few people that had to return em in short order... cheapie china stuff, so it's kinda a 50/50 with hydraulics...

I've lucked out when I bought a 2 1/2T no name from the swapmeet for between 50 to $75 almost 20 yrs ago and it has worked pretty flawless... i've never added oil and beat the snot out of it and it still works great..

I had one Hf floor jack last about 5 yrs. That's worth the $65. I have a nother low profile one that I love. I also use there jack stands.
I personnel y haven't not had good luck with Craftsman jacks.

Craftsman floor jack and jackstands I bought as part of set with a creeper. No complaints here. I think its a three ton.

Sam's club carried this one for like 10 years, but my local Reno outlet has switched to the same one as HF (but red). If you can find this one, it is extremely worth the ~$75 Sam's sold them for. It's actually my favorite sub-$250 jack I've ever used. It's like 2.5 pumps to 24". They're always extremely well received on Pirate. I've got one in AK that lives outside and is about 7 years old, and another one I bought here in Reno a little over a year ago.

I've also got a ~5 year old HF 3 ton. Works great and goes up to 24" like most 3 tons, but it is really slow to pump, and it uses gears instead of a ujoint, so working the valve with the handle has required some washers and fiddling to get it to line up well through the full range of motion.

Get at least 24" jackstands, which are usually 6 tons. I'd just buy whatever's a good deal. My 24"ers are not quite tall enough for everything I do, so I built some cribbing from 2x4 that allows me to use the stands fully retracted at 24". It's actually a lot more stable that way, and it allows me to safely get them up to the ~30" I need to pull the rear axle out with the tires still on.

I have an old 3 ton Big Red jack, its a tank, but still works great. Jackstands I have everything from the Delco cheapies to some 12T Norco's.
The tall gray ones I made for about 70$, but really should have a bigger footprint on them.

A few of the 12 I have...

So, what's the latest and greatest jack deal?

I was looking at http://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...tes-_-Shopping-_-Automotive>Jacks-_-144236

But shipping brings the total to near $200. Would think there is a better deal out there with free shipping.

This looks to be about the same jack

Or this one is looking attractive for a little more:

I have the harbor freight jack. I got the extended warrenty. Used it once

You need to be careful with it the frame is not quite up to the task of heavy use.

That being said as long as your not trying to move the truck around with the jack I am pretty happy with it.

Given the choice I would get the first link listed almost 2.5" of lift difference between it and the aluminium jack.

I pretty much get what I can afford that lifts the highest

Just don't buy craftsman, those jacks are complete crap. Between my Dad and I we've thrown three away in the past four years. Two were the fancy aluminum models and one was the heavy duty steel jack.

I ended up with a $100 HF jack, it's been fine for the past couple years.

I keep being hesitant on the harbor freight one, but am pulling the trigger.

Seems like this is the identical jack that gets rebranded by many others, and truthfully, is probably the same one as my friend's that i've been using the last few years.

Should be fine. Thanks guys!

As you point out, you can often buy a very similar tool from multiple suppliers. They likely come from the same Chinese factory, and people claim they may be made to different tolerances or with different parts ... I doubt it. I betcha they're all the damn same :)

As for HF, like Sears or whoever else, they have some perfectly good stuff, and some really sh!tty stuff. If you buy a $20 sawzall, it's going to be crap, doesn't matter whose brand it is. :haha:

Also, as noted, floor jacks are only meant to lift and lower a vehicle, and are NOT meant to drag a truck sideways. Don't ask me how I know this, save that it resulted in one very fubar jack

after i bought my house i bought a big red 3 ton floor jack that came with jack stands. cant remember what i paid but it wasnt much. the thing is light and moved nicely but at about 3 years after i pick it up and move it i have to bleed it again otherwise it wont pump right its a pain. i picked up a 3 ton from harbor freight and it has worked far better so far and i use it a lot and have had it for 2 years. its heavy as can be but its been very reliable.

My last couple of jacks didn't last very long. Won't lift or creep down.

Last one I bought is the HF steel low profile 3 ton.
So far it's fine. About a year.

The affordable one are all junk seems like.
Use, throw away, buy another .

That's the way we live these days, that's why we shop today. We want cheap
But yet we want quality. Oxy Moron.
