Floor Jacks..What are you using.

ive got the fat 3 ton craftsman with the handle that twists... some of the best $50 ive ever spent

my buddy however bought one of those skinny 3 tons from sears and its a sack of crap that bleads hydro fluid everywhere

had a an old MAC i took on trade, thought it was just low on fluid, topped it off and put it under the lawnmower, made contact and on the next pump it was empty of fluid, lol

Dad has a 3 1/2 Harbor Freight special it works great. I got my grandpas "Big Red" 3 1/2 when he passed away. No compaints from it either.

mine came from tractor supply, it has a foot pump just beside the handle, so if its in a position that you cant get a full stroke on the handle, you can raise it quickly w/ the foot pump,.. instead of 100 tiny strokes of the handle,.. i've had it @ 1 1/2 yrs, works good, but still need a block or 2 on anything w/ 44's or bigger... let me see if i can find it and post a link.

i think this is it:

i thought it lifted higher than 19.5'', tho, i'll have to measure it, b/c i would swear i read on the box when i got it, that maximum pad height was 23'' :dunno: its been a good jack...we lifted a house floor joists w/it, and it held it, while we put new joist & stiffback under the house, i was worried it was gonna blow a seal, but no troubles, so far *knocks on wood

I bought an AC Delco jack from a parts sytore about 2 years ago now, its a pile of ****. I bought it to replace an old orange and white one that was a hand me down from my uncle who got it from my grandpa. after I bought the AC jack, the old orange one, it had a texaco sticker on it?? magicly started working again. Ive only used the AC jack a few times.

Now my old orange one isnt working right again. is there a way to rebuild the cylinder?
the thing acts like its out of fluid, but its just been filled.

If I cant fix this one I guess Ill have to run down to the harbor freight and get one. I was just at Northern Tool, and they have ones that look just like my AC Delco jack but painted a different color.

Best jack's we have ever used are the old sears blackhawks imho, great jacks but nobody makes them that good anymore (and ill just about bet we've jacked more cars casually than any other individual, dang we need an indoor shop and a lift lol)

As for new ones, i like the hein warners. Same things as snapons, or used to be. Blue with yellow accents, 23" fully extended, 3 ton (we have some 2 tons too but dont lift nearly as high, like 20"). Nice, big square on the end of the jack (not the small and rounds like the cheapo's).

Get them for right around 300 last time we bought any. I love them and dont even think twice about the sear's pos's. We had one for a day and took it back, and didnt even jack anything up with it. This is when dads best blackhawk started acting up and before we learned about the hein warners.

Would there be a way to rebuild the cylinder somehow? My old one is an awesome jack, just very very tired. and I cant afford $300 for a new jack right now.

Ill try to see if I can fix it, if not Ill have to go back to harbor freight and get that basic 3 ton floor jack.

I have a 3 ton Big Red, that has worked flawlessly the last 20 years, but I don't think they're what they used to be.

I got a Torin 3 ton "black Jack" from costco. must be 10 years ago now. it lived outside for a bunch of years. has never once given me an ounce of trouble. I don't see it slowing down in the near future anytime. You know I don't think I've ever taken a piture of my jack......... being a camera whore that unusual for me.

HA so its -17c outside. and I'm going to take pocs of my jack. what a gearhead thing to do.........:haha:

So... Today after school I decide to take my floor Jack apart and see if I could fix it. Turns out there was alot of pink/brown slushie looking stuff inside the hyd. cylinder part. I guess they dont like water in them:confused:

Now to finish cleaning the slushie out, replace the O-rings, and maybe even pressure wash the biatch. I was even considering a "restoration" so to speak as long as it was this far apart.

Theres no way to explain in words how much I love having tools that I can repair, instead of throwing it out and replacing it.

I have a HF special every one is talking about and its lived outside for 3 years and pumps like the day I bought it. I think i payed 40 bucks on sale along with 4 huge stands. I love HF

two michelin 3.5 tons at the shop. Good jacks. Have already created many adaptors for the jacks for lifting odd things.

One adapter is a 2" square tube mounted horizontally about 10" off the jack. Works great for installing heavy rear bumpers with reciever tubes. Makes it a one man job.

You know Cyber i never thought about fabbing specific adaptors for the jack. As long as the shank fits down in the hole it would work for alot of things. Good call

Well, update time. The one I fixed needs to be fixed again, so I dove down to HF and bought a 3 ton HD jack and a pair of 6 ton jackstands. All for the price of $112. I hope this one works better than the last one I bought.
