just got an 85' 1/2 ton w/ a 700r4, plan on 3/4 ton axles and sm465 to use for a tow rig. i have all my parts together. i am robbing the 4 speed from my k5 trail rig that is getting a th400 and doubler. my k5 is a 78'. question is: i want to order a polyvinyl floor mat for the tow rig but there are two different ones for coulmn and floor shift models. is the whole floor pan different or just the tunnel cover? if just the tunnel cover will the one from my 78' fit the 85' ? or should i just get the mat for coulmn shift and cut holes for the shifter? i really want to get the 85' going so what should i do? thanks -justin

they cost the same bud. thanks but no thanks. and as a matter of fact i bought the truck to replace a 95' cobra so in a way i want it to be nice as possible.
Cool.:D The only place we can play is in the desert; scratch & dent.

any body? you guys seem to pick and choose what you reply too in a way i dont understand. i see multiple pages of replys to some of the most silly newb questions on here. then if i ask anything not of the up most cutting edge hard core tech then it just dies. i mean i guess i'm just an old bumpkin from north carolina who cant even expect to challenge the vast amount hard core knowledge of those on the left coast. sorry for wasting your time. i swear this place is getting worse than pirate for eliteism. in all honesty thats the only reason im not a paying member, i cant justify it. at least on other boards i can find an answer. i love wheeling a chevy i just wish there was a board that was as awsome as the toyota forum on PBB. i mean dont get me wrong there is flaming and i was brought in to "web wheeling" w/ a tough skin but there is always someone who offers quality solutions. i keep my posts low b/c i'd rather listen and learn and only throw my hat in the ring when i'm trying to prevent leanring the hard way. maybe my opinion will change and i hope so, b/c this board has alot of potential. its just like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip sometimes. anyway now that that's off my chest...

I would say go with the column shifter and then cut the hole for the 465. The trans hump cover will be different for the older vehicle, and may match up to the newer one, but you will be better off cutting the cover as well. You will still get a clean finish once you are done.

Once you have carpet down and your shifter boot on, no one will ever know that you cut the hole yourself. Oh the beauty of trim pieces!:D
