All the 30K differential fluids I have changed have been nasty dark and smelly. Most people never change any of their fluids(except oil) with no issue. Personally I am a fan of changing them fairly often. Hell I flush brake fluid at work.
Automatic Transmission? Ford and Mitsubishi recommend at 30K, Mitsu fluid is usually nasty by then, Ford not far behind. GM recommends at 50K from what I've found. Personally every 30k.
.... at 75k i had the tranny flushed and it has been slipping ever since.... just cant hammer TOOO hard... v6 anyway....
