How often should you change the front and rear differential fluid? Tranny fluid?

At work, I recommend both at 30K. Mitsubishi manual transmission fluid looks fairly clean at 30K(in everything but an Evo, there is just metal in that fluid, haha). All the 30K differential fluids I have changed have been nasty dark and smelly. Most people never change any of their fluids(except oil) with no issue. Personally I am a fan of changing them fairly often. Hell I flush brake fluid at work.

Automatic Transmission? Ford and Mitsubishi recommend at 30K, Mitsu fluid is usually nasty by then, Ford not far behind. GM recommends at 50K from what I've found. Personally every 30k.

yeah, x2 on that. if you get 'er wet, repack the bearings and change anything that had the breather underwater.

I thought those were sealed in the axle? I mean, I just repacked mine the other day, and it seems like it would pretty hard for water to get to them...

you'd be suprised how easily mud and water can get in there. you should repack them every time you play in the mud, then let it sit.

i got a 86 samuari....when should i change the fluids for the axles....and transmission...its a stick shift...so should i just get a new filter too

1996 camaro... bought new.. 1 mile on it.. test drove for 2.. so since I left the stealership with 3 miles... I have put 173,000 miles on the car...

same diff fluid, ps fluid, brake fluid... however oil gets changed every ohhhhhh 9-15k.... yeah i know that is bad for a motor.. look at my miles and tell me that :haha: .... at 75k i had the tranny flushed and it has been slipping ever since.... just cant hammer TOOO hard... v6 anyway....

antifreeze got replaced recently... flushed via forced exit.... seems gm put this piece of crap adapter on one of the heater core hoses.. like a pressure release plastic unit with a spring in it..... blew apart.... and viola.... antifreeze slick for the person behind me :doah:

I have heard (especially on a 700r4) that if you have neglected to change the transmission fluid every 30k to just leave it alone and not change the fluid. Seems if you wait too long and change the fluid at 80k or so you will just stir up a bunch of crap and kill the transmission.
