So what is your chosen method for working in the engine compartment? I am 5'11" and have trouble reaching the valve covers and I only have a 4" lift on 33"s. Cinderblocks seem kinda small.:dunno:

Climb on up in there and get friendly with it. :D

If I'm doing big work I'll take the fender wells out and then take the tire(s) off so I can just stand next to the motor.

I usually just climb up into the engine compartmemt. Sit on the core support. If you have a better than stock front bumper...that works too. My current rig doesn't have any inner fenders, that makes it so much easier to work under the hood.

you've got to get intimate with it! climb right on inside, I'm 6'2" and prefer sitting on fender and putting feet on the frame rails, header, or anything else they end up on...

i use a ladder to get up tothe bay. but i'm also too fat to comfortably sit inside the engine bay.

CUCV brushguard and the core support.

My dad has a large, stoutly made wooden box that we used when he owned fullsize trucks in the past. He's only got minivans now and doesn't work on them himself so...

So that's how they're supposed to be used! We had one at work, and no one used it, but then again we couldn't of used them that way for what we were doing.

Sit on the core support, feet on inner fender and frame. If something is in the back of the engine and I'll be there a while, I lay flat across as much as I can, the best I can. It rains here quite often, I generally slip off the bumper climing up or down at least once or twice a day, bang my shins, grab pointy things with my hands and shin my forearms when it happens. I really need a nice beefy FLAT bumper, preferably rhino lined. :doah:

i've got one of those floating harness thingy's on a cable setup like the mechanic in Road Warrior...

pretty cool, i just hover around the motor... i considered a jetpack, but the fuel costs where prohibitive...

Im 5'8" and have 2" lift with 33s. Yea, you gotta get intimate with your truck. To work on passenger side, I have a foam pad I put the alternator support bracket and put my feet on the frame. On the drivers side its hard because of the brake stuff and steering. But I usually sit on the fender or have to do the superman and just lay on my stomach with feet stretched out, usually its to reach the rear header bolts.

Fixing the brake booster plastic vacuum thingy valve. lol

I use 2 milk crates with a 2x12 across them a lot. Even if I'm not standing on it, it makes a step so I don't have to lift myself up. I also used square tube on the top of my bumper for this reason.

Kneeling on the core support torques my knee a bit and kills the ligaments. Can't wait to taper the front so I can stand on the tires easier.

My first thoughts before I read it all was thinking you used a sex swing. :haha:

I'm a wuss. I usually lay a couple towels up on the core support before I climb up there. The core supports on the 80's trucks have some pretty sharp edges.

Quoted for truth.
