i want to do the EXACT same thing with the lift up hatch on my burvair! already have the drawings and the shopping list made up.

nope. wrong thread. these types of buggies are light and fun, and spend most of their time right side up.
I think it takes massive cajones to drive a VW pan with a fiberglass body down the freeway, at 65mph, next to a bald super single on the back axle of a Mexico registered semi.

Never seen those fenders, very unusual. The bottom one is very Manx-ish.
Saw this tube frame buggy by my in laws shop.
There were 2 at pismo this year. July 11 thru 13-14th is the Oficial 60th anniversary celebration of Meyer Manx dune buggy, in Big Bear CA.
At the 50th we had 328 buggies at the event.
I imagine at least 1 maybe more SR will be there.
