Ford 6.0 vs. 7.3

my friend jus bought an 05 f250 6.0 with 7k miles. i tried to tell him that the 6L was junk and to find a 7.3 but he couldnt resist. did they get all the problems fixed for the 05?

It's better than the 03' and 04' but it still has problems

what he said.

I noted earlier, my buddy had an 03, with a ton of problems, Ford SHOULD have bought the damn thing back in my opinion. He traded it on an 05 or 06(can't remember which) with another 6.0L cause they said all the problems were fixed.... I just slapped an inspection sticker on an 06 E350 van with a 6.0L in it.... 1500 miles, and the check engine light was on :haha::doah:

I echo the 6.0 problems I have several freinds with the 6.0 ( 5 ) Every single one them has blown a head gasket. All at less than 150,000 miles one at 75,000 miles

My buddy blew one WELL before 75,000. He was working on another one on his 05/06(can't remember the year), but installed ARP head studs. Now granted hes juicing the truck up, but nothing outrageous.

In comparison our other friend was pushing 60PSI of boost, with twin turbos, and a chip stacked on top of a module, producing an estimated upper 400s, 500hp, and all he did to his engine was put in ARP head studs. This on an 05 Cummins.

Got a guy down here says the factory machining tolereances on the heads and maybe the block are not flat enough.

My family's shop has an '04 6.0 F350 and a '99 7.3 F550. The 6.0 is BAD. Hauled my 7,000lb CC Dually on a trailer up the mountains at 70mph. Stock. Buuuut, everyone says they have probelms. None on ours yet. The 7.3 does not impress me, but it's in a much heavier truck.

New Dodge will be a 6.7 liter Cummins Straight six not a Caterpillar i agree on the Older Dodge auto's being junk But How can you say the manuals are??the NV4500 is rock solid (way better than fords ZF-5speed) granted they had a Few problems with the NV5600 ( which is why they switched to the 6-speed ZF which ford has been useing) the Biggest gripe I've heard with Dodge manuals is that the Stock Clutch will not grip hard enough and begin to slip under High load when you start Modding them. Oh and the 5th gear problem that Plauged some NV4500's

Can you s'plain to me what you see for problems with the NVG5600. Other than burning up the OD bearing on the mainshaft by under lubrication.

Wolf359 runs 750ftlbs through his stock clutch on his '97. hasn't had any problems at that power level that I've seen.

No I can't I just heard they had problems with the 5600 and that's why the went to the ZF tranny two of my buddies have 97 12 valve Dualies and the clutch slips in 4 and 5th under hard accelration there both Midly modified

the 13" clutch behind the nv5600 can hold quite alot before they give up ghost. but slipping in 4th and 5th like you're saying has nothing to do with the tranny right. so just upgrade the clutch to a south bend and you're golden. I don't get why they'd swap out trannys because the clutch slips.......

I'm a cummins guy all I was saying was the known problems with dodges .... which are very few Ford boy up there was the one saying that ALL dodge trannys suck not me

I gotcha, me too. I'm just trying to dig any more info about the 5600 that I can. I have 1 apart in my garage right now. I'm liking the idea of sticking it in my '98 2500 with a 13" clutch. The only weakness I know of the '01-up 5600 is the main bearing on the output shaft burning up due to under lube.

well there must be some others for Dodge to stop using them they've been using New process/New Venture at least 50 years

I don't believe it's a problem with the product at all. but an economic factor behind the change.

thats exactly it... if the zf's are cheaper and equivalent strength then it doesnt make sence not to

Remember who OWNS Dodge now. The Germans probably got a better price on the ZF, due to the exchange rate. I am surprised they did not try to put a MB diesel in the Dodges.

very good point. I was actually convinced that a mercedies was going into the Rams in '07 when the contract expired before the talk of the 6.7 cummins came out.

I've been around some of the MB diesels good power and reliable but it doesn't make good Buisness sense the CUMMINS name is what sells these trucks ..... at least for me anyway
