1/2 ton status
I already put a Ford Aerostar roof rack on my topper and its held up well over the last few years. I wanted to extended my carrying capabilities along with giving some place to mount a light bar.
I shortened the roof rack. put the end caps on and it looks pretty nice IMO. this is just mocked up, the interior is removed and im just waiting to repaint the roof (want a good coat of paint before perma mounting this thing).
Just wanted to get opinions, etc. Once its mounted, I may just leave the lower cross bars and remove the higher ones, havent decided. but thats the joys of these, once the tracks are mounted I can do what I want with the cross bars, light bar and eventually a custom basket type roof rack.
The idea would be to build a custom aluminum basket type roof rack that will mount to the topper and the cab rails, so I can make a roof rack thats a couple feet longer and spreads the load out more. My org. concept was to have dual basket racks that would butt up against each other but look like one single basket, but the front basket would be pretty small, still kicking the idea. we'll see. lol
