Ford Bronco? You are going to hate me, but this is BAD ARSE!

go to roadarmor.com and you will see that exact pic except it is a full size excursion, they are the company that makes those grill guards, all someone did is chop up the pic and make it look short, by the way i will remind you that chevy screwes up to,builds a cavalier, and if it wasnt for chevy we wouldent have shity 10 bolts and cv axles on fullsize trucks ,after 91 chevy did drop the ball

that grill guard is on Hinges on the front bumper, I would love to have a guard like that.
that is also a 2 door excursion, they are built and sold in Mexico.

That's why it is called an excretion, oh I mean excursion!

I agree with Neil and ColAdo82.
I see more Chevy's "older and newer" here on the road in Texas. This is Chevy country...
F$%k dodge and Furds...
I've been GM since my first car "72 nova" I've had 3 nova's, 69 Chevelle and a 1989 Jimmy. My parent's were Ford folks til they saw the light and bought their first GM truck.

I imagine that since that the guard pivots on the bumper that it would be as simple as a couple of clevis pins and the whole guard could come off for engine access.
I stand corrected on the 2 door excursion, maybe it was the 2 door taho that I heard they were building in Mexico.

Ford has the same riveted on ball joint design. I just did them on my '67 Cougar. Neither company is all bad but there is no way that I'd buy an IFS Chevy.

Dan,
I think what you are referring to is the Ram Charger being built and sold in Mexico. For some reason it's not sold in the U.S. Check it out http://www.dodge.com.mx/a_productos/ramcharger/galeriae5.html Notice its the Ram Charger and NOT the Durango, they look almost identical, and in the pictures its hard to tell them apart. I've seen a couple of these in person and they're pretty cool looking. I see a lot of cars from Mexico that aren't sold here and it's weird to see them on the road. Chevy has quite a few, most of them being extremely small. I imagine those aren't sold here due to safety standards. I looked through the whole site and it's only available in 2WD. I think if they would make it in 4WD, Dodge would be more willing to make it with a SOLID front diff as opposed to GM or ford.

i thought chevy was gonna maxe the 2 door tahoe for the mexico as weell.....

Matt,
Just wondering where you heard that. I haven't heard that, definitely something I'd like to check out. I went through Chevrolet's Mexico website and it doesn't show anything of the sort. If I find it I'll definitely share.

That new Ramcharger was originally scheduled to be sold in the US as competition to the Suburban, Bronco and Blazer. I'm not really sure why Daimler-Chrysler doesn't sell a full-size SUV in the US. It seems that they are missing some market share, especially when they already have the design and tooling done. If you like Dodge, you get pickup or Durango.

About that hopped-up Excursion: some poor Nissan Extera driver sure is going to miss his running boards and roof rack! I would be really surprised if Ford sold any S.D. with a wheelbase that short.

When you guys start talking about the big three selling trucks with solid front axles, you have to remember that they will avoid tooling anything different at all costs. Does Dana still make a 60 front end? Even a 44? I think that they have a new one to go under the front of big Fords, but the automakers are only going to put these in heavy duty trucks and those are all going to be pickups (except for the Excursion, maybe -- does it have a solid front axle?). If everyone wanted it, they would be selling it. But noone wants it at the price that they would have to sell it at.

i read that in a mag a year ago or so, right after the restyle of the tahoe, it had a small pic of a white 2 door tahoe with the z71 pakage, blurb said "look and wish for it, it will only be released in mexico, but if we could have it here, this is what it would look like."

Okay guys, here is my other .02. I live 5 minutes north of the Mexican border, and there are a sh*t-load of 2 door "Mexican Tahoes" EVERYWHERE here. They are still building them in Mexico. The only differences are the front end is a GMC front-end with a chevy badge in the center of the grille. Also, I have yet to see a 4X4. They are ALL 2wd. They don't call them Tahoes, either. There are plenty of new 2dr Ramchargers as well. And no, Ford DOES NOT make a 2dr Excursion in Mexico. By the way, what is it with you guys slamming Ford?! Yes, I am a Chevy guy all the way and I at one time would also slam Ford, but come-on...let's give credit where credit is due. Ford F350s are awesome! No matter which way you slice it, a solid axle is better for wheeling, and Chevy still has IFS. Let's not be slamming Ford or other makes just because we don't drive them. I can always appreciate a bomb-proof one-ton Ford. Those guys love their trucks just like we love ours.

Blue85,
I have to disagree with you on some of your points. First of all you say that auto manufacturers will AVOID re-tooling at all costs. I understand why, but if this were true why did GM switch from solid to IFS? I would guess IFS is also more expensive, more parts equals more production costs. I personally believe that GM thought that IFS was what people wanted (the general public, including soccer moms) so they switched.

You mentioned that automakers would only put solid axles in "heavy duty" trucks, not so. Remeber the jeep? What about the Dodge Ram 4x4 (which is considered "light duty"). ford's SD (excursion included) are solid axle, but their light duty trucks (f150, expediton) are IFS. Ironically GM's HD 4x4 is NOT solid axle (does have a nice 8.1 big block and an Allison tranny). You're last sentence contradicts itself and answers the debate. You said if everyone wanted it (solid axle) but the truth is that "everyone" is okay with IFS, they prefer the soft ride and have no clue what articulation and strength are. And the price for a solid axle should be less than a compareable equiped IFS, example the jeep wrangle. These things are relatively cheap. What would happen if they dumped the solid axle in favor of IFS? I think price would go up.

BigTex,
I'm calling your bluff!

If you're 5 minutes north of the border, then I'm 2 minutes north of the border, just north of Tijuana. Calm down, I'm not calling you a liar, it's just that I haven't seen a 2dr "Tahoe" and the Chevrolet-Mexico website would have it if its available, it lists the C5 for crying out loud. Next time I'm in TJ I'll stop by the Chevy dealer just to see for myself.
