Ford shock towers and 52in springs

The GMT900 and GMT800 2500 Burbs have leaf springs and a 14 bolt(have seen lots of 14ff in Iraq and Kuwait in the GMT900s, but haven't seen one up close here to see if they are FF or SF). The 800 and 900 1500s have coil spring like the Tahoe and Yukons.

Springs are measured eye to eye in a straight line (string of a bow).

I swear I can find a brizzilion threads on here that say to measure eye to eye along the leaf. Thinking in my head here: If I find a spring that is a "52" and is new and I measure it like a "bow string" it will measure less than that because of the arch. But if I take a worn out sagging and banged up "52" it will measure much longer than 52"s because it is laying flatter. Now matter how new or old a spring is if you measure eye to eye along the main leaf it will always measure the same. Right???? Or what am I missing heere?????????

All the sites say the same thing, measure the spring as if it was flat since the spring will vary with age and use.

This is weird. If i measure my springs from eye to eye they are 52" center to center, if i measure them along the main leaf they are longer than 52".
