ok, for doing 52in springs up front, there are two critical questions i have.

A. what doner vehicles have the ford shock towers? any special tools needed to remove them? im going to the yard on wednsday, figured id look around while i was there.

B. refresh my memory, what doner vehicles had the 52in springs? obviously the blazers had them in the back. anything else? there are a few suburbans and gm pickups at the yard, but no blazers. i measured one pickup and it was like a 63in or something like that. im guessing an impact gun or torch would make this easier, but i think i can do it with a wrench and ratchet.

I just bought my shock towers from a Ford dealership. They were less than $15.00 for the pair [ as I recall]. Check it out.
1986 -250 2wd.
Think of your time and effort.

oh wow, thanks. im a fan of new over used so long as the price is reasonable, and even for $30, im down with that.

There are two types of Ford shock towers that people commonly use. The stamped steel version have been discontinued several years ago and these are what people first used. The full cast towers i have no idea about what application or if they're even available new anymore.

The 52" springs came on the rear of blazers, lots of burbs and some trucks.

mmkay, would excursions have those shock towers too? they use the super duty chassis dont they?

also, embarrasing question but sometimes when its this obvious im missing something. measuring springs.... its just from eye hole to eye hole along the curve of the spring right? or do i measure along the strait line between the eye holes?

in other words, picture a bow, from a bow and arrow set, do i measure the wood or the string?

Yep, you are wrong, burbs didn't come out with the 56" rear springs until the middle 80's.

Early ones?

I have a 86 2wd 1/2 ton 88 3/4ton 2wd 88 3/4 ton 4wd and a 91 4wd and they all have 56" springs

Edit: apparently yes

I've never even seen an earlier burb, they are all crushed around here

The body style that lasted up until 91 used 56" springs. The 92 and up probably used 63"ers(or are they 64"?) as did the GMT800 and now the GMT 900 body styles.

These year burbs used BOTH 52" and 56" springs.

if i had to guess i would say the excusion would have the same mounts, but ive never looked at one.

im pretty sure you would measure along the curve (the wood on bow) to determine the length of a spring.

GMT900 'burbs have rear coil springs. :deal: :D

GMT900 pickups may have 63" leafs.
