now i hate to say this but im considering looking at a ford,

i had two rentals, one was a 09 ford f150 2wd crew cab, and a 09 chevy silverado 2wd crew cab.

the ford would run a 1.5 sec 0-60 then my 07 silverado classic with exhaust and cold air, and edge chip with the 5.3

it had more leg room in the back than the chevy.

the chevy had the 4.8 so i cant really compare motor sizes but for leg room and throttle response the chevy sucked.

anybody own a new ford or chevy? pros and cons?

I just bought a 2010 Expedition Eddie Bauer. (HD towing package... 9200lbs rating) It's nice, I'm happy with it so far. I really wanted a 3/4 ton suburban, but they were just too expensive. I consider myself a chevy guy. But then again... after what happened in recent times I've gained a lot of respect for the Ford product. So we shall see.

Eh

I've seen too many brand new Ford's be broken for me to ever buy one. I remember DeviousK5's dad bought a new F150 a few years back, it was pretty nice inside but had all kinds of misfiring problems with like 40k on the clock. I did R&R for a trans shop for a short time and I saw a lot of Fords, like Focus' and Taurus' with 60k needing a rebuild constantly, but let's leave cars out of it because then Ford really starts looking bad, lol. But a brand new (at the time) 06/07 Powerstroke Diesel... With a burnt out Torqshift trans (supposedly the shiiit). Anything with a Ford that has an automatic, NO THANK YOU. Seems like I was always working on a Ford. I never even had the pan off a 4L80 the whole time I was there. That's when I got really bias on this whole Ford vs Chevy thing, LOL

I'm a Ford tech. What do you want to know ask away. I give you a straight up no bull**** answer. Hell I even have a good bit of experience with the Chrysler stuff, and will do my best answer any questions about them.

Where I work we all were issued Tahoes in the past. We just got a shipment of the new Ford Expeditions. I told my boss that I wanted to keep my Tahoe because it was larger inside and the seats were more comfortable, in my opinion.

In my last field of work. I drove a lot of different trucks, at different times, Old, and new. From that I learned that ford is a grate truck for the first year, or if you are lucky 2. But after that they start to fall apart. But you are right, at first they are a nicer truck. They just don't hold up in my experience. But dodge, dare I say it. Is always a nice truck for work. Hope that helps, good luck:thumb:

I love the 5.9L Cummins but these new 6.7L are worthless. We have nine waiting for a new DPF filter and/or a turbo. Dodge really needs to get these new motors figured out or Ford and GM are going to take control of the heavy duty diesel market. I like the new 6.7L from Ford. We have sold several at the store and haven't seen any of them back with any problems. One of the guys has put almost 30,000 miles on his and all he can say is how much he loves his truck.

I don't currently own any Chevy's and in my fleet there are four Dodges, three Fords, and one Jeep. The best vehicles I have owned are the Dodges and that explains why I own four of them. I own Fords but, really prefer the Chevy's over the Fords, especially the new ones.

On a side note, my current tow rig is a 6.7 Cummins and has yet to have a lick of problems. I haven't owned it for very long and it is a 2010 so that may explain it but, I have already had one 6.7 Ford in the shop for repairs. Every truck manufacture can have lemons.

Yeah that is true about any vehicle. Yeah we haven't see any of the 2010 Cummins with any problems yet but the 09 and down we see alot of. What was wrong with the 6.7L Ford? Like I said I haven't seen any with problems yet so just curious.

F150 has been the best selling vehicle (not just truck) for the last 28 years. They must be doing something right.

It really hasn't because they make a distinction between the Chevy and GMC models, look at the 2008 sales here. Chevy is well ahead if you add those two together.

But that doesn't mean much, there are all kinds of factors that would mean one sells more than the other that have nothing to do with whether it's the best truck for the money (and in that same right the "best truck" is very different through the eyes of different people).

The Ford just up and died after sitting idle for too long and running the whole time. The truck went into a limp mode after the owner was able to get it re-fired. I think it was a computer problem that really could happen to anyone. One computer was not talking to another computer is all it was.

Before I bought my new Dodge I test drove a new Ford. The down fall of the Ford was the "floating" feeling in the steering while driving at high way speeds. The other drawback was the price tag. $65,000 for the one I liked. The Dodge has an interior that is finally on par with the Chevy and the Ford as was stickered around $55,000. A full $10,000 cheaper than the Ford and nearly the same for the Chevy's.

I grew up with Fords on my grandparent's farm, and I've always hated that "floating" feeling in the Ford steering. It was ok having that feeling in the fields, but I didn't like it on the highway.
I've only owned one Ford truck and that was in the 80's.
I haven't driven a Ford lately, but I've always wondered if they still have that feeling in the steering.

Yeah the steering does have that "floating" feeling which is kinda weird at first, but after awhile you don't notice it. The new Fords are spendy, but hell they all are. The new Dodges do have a much better interior than they have before, but to me it seems like the seat cushions are shorter and not as comfortable as before. But thats just me.

This is a Chevy forum, I don't like all the "Dodge is cool and Ford is alright" talk that's going on in here, we need a little Ford naysaying just to keep it honest.

First off, the F-150 hasn't been the best selling truck for 28 years. A GMC Sierra 1500 and a Chevy Silverado 1500 are separate numbers in sales, but how many of us truly differentiate a GMC and Chevy in our minds? I went out looking for a Chevy Blazer and came home with a GMC Jimmy and never thought anything of it... I still tell my son "Go get my tool bag out of the Blazer for me."

Ford's have bad auto transmissions

Gutless gas engines

That "underwater" feeling on the steering wheel

The seats make me feel like I'm on a barstool they're so high

The front solid axle trucks deathwobble when you lift it

They are just plain butt ugly

Ok Ok... I feel better now. And so should all of you

the ford would run a 1.5 sec 0-60 then my 07 silverado classic with exhaust and cold air, and edge chip with the 5.3

would run the 0-60 1.5 sec FASTER THAN i hope you mean?

regardless, the only new trucks i would by are
diesel - cummins
gas - chevy 6.0/dodge 5.7

the new "eagle" 5.7 in the 09 and later dodge trucks is beast. ive worked on a few and the new head design and VVT really makes some power (as much as i hate VVT in general)

and you cant go wrong with an LSx based motor. period.

ive owned a ford explorer, my best friend has a ford f150 and my mom used to have a ford expedition. all performance aspects aside... the interiors and the seats are the most uncomfortable vehicle i have ever sat in.
Regarding their engines and performance, maybe im just biased and dont care, but i dont know enough to comment on. But until they fix their interior, i wouldnt even consider one.

the new dodge and chevy styling is awesome, and i just cant get a taste for the ford styling. however the raptor does look pretty sharp. the ford diesels are way ugly. but thats just a matter of opinion too.

And just what is the point of a faster (proper term would be quicker) truck? It's a truck, not a sports car.

There's already too many idiots driving their trucks too fast on the roads as it is. Every idiot that tailgates and weaves in and out of traffic at 90 mph on the highways in Texas is driving a PU truck. They really aren't the most stable vehicle to drive like that.

I'm happy with my slow K5...has plenty of power to go through mud, snow, water and up hills where those "fast" trucks can't go.
