Hey guys, It has been a long time since i posted. I really wanted to get another K5 but just cant stand rust. Well after giving up, i stumbled upon a MINT 86 GMC K10. Long bed regular cab, 4wd, 305 Auto. It was fully redone body wise in may of '10. It has ALL the original sheet metal, even the original inner and outer rocker panels. It was a one owner truck that was garage kept its entire 125k miles of life. I picked it up for $600.00

The original owners drunken son took it out and ran it into a pole, and wiped out the grill, core support, bumper, hood, passenger side inner and outer fender, as well as the door. It did not have any frame damage.

I bought a 91 Chevy suburban nose for it, and am in the process of prepping the parts for paint, and have not taken the 86 apart yet.

I really want to put a 6" or 8" lift and 37" tires on it. It will be a mall crawler/ second vehicle for me, and I know more than any one how well the stock axles will hold up. Down the road if lifted, i fully intend to have a D60 front and 14bFF disc rear in it.

Any tips or suggestions on this project?

I will post pics up soon.

mint condition but the front is all wrecked and needs grill, core support, bumper, hood, passenger side inner and outer fender, as well as the door?

anyway, sounds like a nice project, cant wait to see pics

I say mint meaning other than the damage it looks factory new.....Not even a dent inside the bed. It has the factory dash that is not cracked, and a not worn out factory floor mat, and seat......

Aside from its unfortunate dose of dumb a$$, it it s really nice, and easily fixable truck

Watch out for frame damage. Def worth it even if you have to have a body shop pull it straight but hopefully it won't come to that. Nice color too.

i checked measurements as best i could before buying, and its not bent as best i can tell. The impact is just beside the frame rail

If its just a street truck skip the 14-bolt/Dana 60, and just get a semi float 14 bolt for the rear and keep the 10-bolt up front re-gear as needed

X2. no need to carry all that extra weight. a 14ff bolt weights somewhere like 575lbs. under 500lbs with disc brakes.

less weight = better mileage and wear on the brakes, tires and such

Wow, takes me back. My dad had one identical to that, only thing different from yours was his was an '85 Chev and it had the manual vs. auto. He bought it brand new and I took it off his 12 years later still in bone stock condition.....that didn't last long, though!

Good luck with the build. I put the '91 burb front on my '84 K5 I'm building up and really like the look it gives them.

:waytogo: on the front clip. zactly what im doin. i scored mine froma 90 gmc burb. along with the power doors.
goin from broken- to beautiful:D

I dont really care about mileage or weight. My current DD is a K3500 dually diesel, and my summer car is a 69 mustang Mach 1. I like over built, and reliable above all else.

I also buy a cucv or two every year, and this time ill be getting it for the axles, instead of parting it out.

Do you buy them from a government liquidation or have connections at base camps? haha. Or, just find people who want to sell them?

Have two in my yard right now, one 1009 driver,a nd one 30k mile 1009 parts rig. Like i said, i get one or two a year, and some i drive pretty far for.
