I have a 1970 Chevy SWB 1/2 ton,
It has a 350sbc,,,,700 R4,P/S,PBrk
we are trying to upgrade from a 2 core to a four core,

I have a new fourcore, plus the new Larger upper
and lower harware clamp mounts,,,,

We noticed the radiator top clamps need spacer's
between the coresupport and the bottom of the clamps,
1/2-3/4-inch!
Has anybody got a thread with sudgetion's on this up grade!
Mike

Are you sure every thing is going together properly at the bottom?? If it is a factory style rad. it shouldn't need spacers. If it does they will be listed in LMC in the exploded veiws. I bought a 4 core from autozone for my sons 72 blazer and it fits without spacers also:dunno:

thanks for the reply,,
The lower core support has the back edge toward the motor
bent down vise grip and a hammer it was causing a problemn!

>and I massaged the angled flange on the back side a little!

the new bottom bracket rad clamps are sitting on core support,
new bolts are sitting in the hole's,
they had a really lage 5/8ths rubber block's with 2 releif's cut on the bottom
for the bolts!
compared to the rusty stock clamps old rubber pieces, at 1/4 inch thick but used on the Smaller rad tank!

I was thinking a One Ton 1970 Chevy might have had a top clamp designed fot this set up! like a spacer round tubing or sq tuing blocks

note;
>While I was at the specialty store I bought new Four core tank clamp's for my 87 FS GMC "Jimmy" 4X4,TBI 5.7 700 R4

I had added a New ally radiator a radiator for a
>BBC suburban 7 plate internal ATF cooler Ally 2 large row big tanks,
mabe more cooling than a 4- core brass,
I installed 2 years back and had to modify a few thing's and had older Rubber Pieces I needed to replace top and bottom!

So I had them to compare as they are a 1/4 inch lower, than the new70 model and fit the lower clamp bracket's,,
>>>>so to lower it I tried the 87 new rubber blocks,

I would guess that some one has tried this before, with spacers or creative fabrication!

Visualy both old and new radiators are the same height and lenght,,,
But I will Measure with a tape and Square
on a flat surface tomorow,,,,,
>> as we had earlier set them on the ground and eyeballed them!:doah:

>>I beleve the tanks ridge is bigger 1 inch over all !
but I will check!
plus I have to deal with the fan shroud being out of cemter!

Anybody having a Ideal or pictures would help!
>>>>Got any ideas?
Mike

It doesn't sound like he's using a stock style radiator. I'd say that as long as theres no hood clearence issues then some thick washers or a spacer cut from a spring eye bushing would do the trick..

My fellow CK5 ers
Thanks for the help we got it done!

Me and my Son n' Law have got it secured,:doah:
and will get a picture up later,

It was the same size rad outside lenght and height
but when I changed the new aftermarket lower mount's
the tank ribs were not compressing!

It was to high to put the clamps on top to secure it to the core suport top with the noramal bolt's
>>we ended up using 4 Shock bushing's,,
>1/2 hole 1 inch thick from a New aftermarket Help (doorman)Kit ;

to use under the top clamp's (new after market (4-core hardware)
to bolt it down and secure it with Longer bolt's to pull it down
4- 5/16th X 1'' 1/2'' ,,,,course thread,

The extra bolt hole tip end's on the brackets (past radiator)
had to be adjusted bent down slightly
to get the Fan Shroud holes to match up!

Now it is all back to geather! and has had a road check,
and my hands are thawed out!
