Four Wheeler mag dead

Nothing left after @Fastereddie blazer was featured.
Sad to see it go along with the others for sure.

I'm waiting on them to kill Ultimate Adventure.

I hate Motortrend. :flipoff1:

It’s not just Motortrend. People don’t buy magazines anymore

A friend of mine has a magazine of his own, with a few other cult followers. They make about 200 every 3 months or so. No ads
Cost is $20 a shot. That’s exactly how much it cost to print and ship

As with each, the cost adjustments are to quantity. Advertisement cost is based on readership. Fewer readers, less valuable the ad is to a commercial entity

All the world is free on FB. And the quality reflects it. Same applies to forums. Most all are gone.

Lost a ton of old 4wheeler mags when I moved.
I stopped getting print mags awhile back.
Hate storing them feel guilty recycling them.
For me though the technical stuff I needed to know would mostly farmed out, and no depth.
Learning about new products and seeing real people's builds is cool, but CK5 is better for that.:saweet:
more in depth, get to comment, and some epic derails are entertaining.

What's interesting is CK Truck Magazine was started independently by two guys. The product they put out is top notch.
I wonder how long it will last.

I never could get into four wheeler, I didnt like the editor the last time I read it. He had the know it all attitude and it showed in his writing style. I attempted to watch the first Ultimate Adventure after Pewe left but couldn't stand listening to the guy running it.

I'm a 3rd gen print industry member. The industry has been long ago scooped up by larger conglomerates. Unless you have deep pockets or a niche market you have a stranglehold on, it's a tough battle. A quick analogy is if you're not the walmart print shop in town, it's cheaper and easier to outsource. The downside to brokering is that the majority of the "trade shops" sell to retail end users and are your competitors anyways.

We're a generation away from digital everything, all the way down to business cards.

I have a business card I can tap on a phone and it will upload all my contact info.

I had years of magazines stacked up in my basement. Some had been moved from when I was in Detroit. I save a handful and pitched the rest in the dumpster. Hot rod, Four Wheeler, 4wheel and off road, Car Craft, etc.

I justified keeping them all that time for the info that was stored within. As, I might need to refer back to that tech article for something. But the reality came to me that I don’t remember which magazine had which nugget of info I needed. Plus technology has kept marching along so much that the tech info in older magazines is woefully out of date. The manufacturer of a certain part may not be around anymore. Lugging then on another move was not in the cards.

You can find 90 percent of old articles online if you needed to. Even then you have to validate if the info is still relevant.

I had a hair brained idea to possibly SAS my ZR2 S10 so I surfed for some info to see what’s out there. Sure enough found an old article from Four Wheeler on the motor trend site. They worked with Cars and Concepts out of Detroit for a kit that used a Jeep front axle and suspension (think TJ/XJ stuff) that was a pretty simple and low CG setup. Grabbed the link for them expecting to get to the kits and it was just the main website to the company that is still in business but they don’t sell parts/kits. But if you need a prototype/concept built they can do it.

The article was cool, but mostly a waste because it was so old.

It’s no different than newspapers going to digital and not actually printing. We as a society do not get our information in print anymore. Hell, you don’t even get an owners manual with a new car either.

It’s a different time.

Motor trend is pulling the plug after the February 2023 issue. Going to be digital only, no hard copy. Had a feeling this was going to happen after 4Wheel&OffRoad was cancelled.
Sad times.
I just resubd today and asked the lady when I called if they were pulling the plug, I’m signed up thru Feb 2025

Wow, what a joke! The woman I spoke to said “we have no plans to cancel four wheeler”. I had asked her because I couldn’t find the link to renew on the website, now I know why….glad I had them bill me instead of paying on the phone
