the reason you are not to grind down a weld is its stronger left alone when done than ground on. only grind welds for clearence needs or for fitment. and a good welder will be happy to show you his stack of dimes. and paint over them.
thats why on like boyd cottington hot rods thay lay bone over the welds to smoth them out and then paint them so its all smoth.
