Is there a difference between years in the front frame horns?
I can't seem to find what I'm looking for when i search.

Thanks guys

Yes, 73-80 then 81+.

The difference is the later style looks like its cut off at a 45 degree angle where the early has a closed, rounded end.

So what does that mean for bumper options. Are the interchangeable Between those years?

with little work and fab yes.

i have a 73-80 frame and 87 body on my 1ton i welded the 81-87 brackets over the frame horn ends and bolted it on as i also had 2" body lift to level bumper out on. and my bumper just looks good just behind the masive fisher snow plow frame so no real beefy mounting needed.

or some guys have cut off the frame ends and welded in the style thay wanted.

aftermarket bumpers it dont matter tho as thay bolt on and go.

Ok, so I think I understand not ever taking a front bumper off before. The stock bumpers mount directly to the frame horns and the after market bumpers mount to the sides of the frame? Is this correct?

Thanks

73-80 OE bumpers mount to the enclosed end or face of the rail also using a small bracket on top of the rail.

81+ bumpers have brackets that go from the bumper to the side of the rail.

Yes, most aftermarket full bumpers mount to the side of the frame. The brushguard type winch mounts I've seen mount to the end/face.
