I have a 1975 k5 that I took down to the frame and am getting ready to put a new body on. I had it sandblasted and painted. Its on tires, axes, shackle flip in the rear, and new leafs up front. I measured it diagonally front to rear and there is an inch difference between the two measurements. Should this be a concern or is there that much flex/give in the frame?

Was the frame on a vehicle that looked/drove straight before?

That's what I'm not sure about. I got the frame from someone who was trying to restore it. He said he drove it for a while before getting into rust repair. The body was all chopped up when I got it and my plan was to put the rust free body from Arizona I acquired. I read some horror stories online about various vehicles doing body swaps having trouble lining up and it got me worried.

To be honest i wouldnt be horribly worried. You are this far, might as well just bolt the body on and see how it sits. Its only a matter of a dozen bolts or so if its no good.

My frame is super tweaked in the rear, but it drives straight down the road. Ive had people drive behind me to check for dog walk lol.

Hopefully I'm just getting worried over nothing. The plan is to put the body on this weekend. Having some friends help me move it and lift it on the frame for the price of beer.

Ha, well thank you it does ease my mind a little. Probably overthinking things. BTW your build thread is always inspiring

Its just an old pos with some shiny parts. I wish i had done a frame off. Would have been much easier to weld on lol.

I got two frames, actually spent a bunch of time on the one getting it prepped for boxing/reinforcing, only to find it was so tweaked the crossmembers were bent.

Bought another one, put it on flat concrete, tweaked also.

Bought a frame with a body still bolted to it, relatively straight.

I'd agree though, an inch is not a big difference. On the K5's, the body (unfortunately) is providing much of the strength instead of the frame, as on the trucks the cab and bed were able to twist independently, the K5 body being solid acts differently. Bolting the body up will probably not be an issue.

it's what they make porta-powers, drifts and BFH's for... :pimp:

Well it turns out that inch wasn't a problem. Putting the body on went quick and easy. Feels good to get this big step out of the way.

Had some of my teammates help me carry the body and set it on the frame. Took about a half hour to get it all done
