Ok boys and girls. Wrecking the truck and getting fired have put this project on serious back burner. I finally got around to it today. Made some progress but hit a major pair of roadblocks regarding my SRW hubs.

Test fitting the DRW hubs and my swap in rotors showed they fit perfectly. and would bolt together just fine. When i knocked the wheel studs out of the SRW hubs and tried to fit them.... no dice. the SRW hub inner half is tapered and gets wider the closer to the middle it gets. the tip will fit into the rotor, but then it gets wedged stuck, about 3/4 of an inch from a flush fit. Not a huge deal, i could have the hub machined to fit, but its kind of annoying.

The second major roadblock is that the SRW hubs do not fit on my D70HD axle ends. They slide on just fine, but after installing the lock nut, and tightening it until it bottomed out on the threads, the hub has 3/4 to 1 full inch of side to side travel. Im very confused.

Was there a change in design of SRW hubs at some point? my D70HD is from 1985, my SRW hubs are from 1998.

Last point, as mentioned, the DRW hubs fit the rotors the way i want them to. And i know they will fit correctly on the axle. The whole reason im trying to get the SRW hubs to fit is for the extra 2in of rear track width to match the DRW D60 front axle. Is that necessary? will it be the end of the world if i run the DRW width D70HD behind the DRW D60 front?

ok, so par for the course, i may have written a little too much and asked four or five questions complicating exactly what im looking for.

As of right now, here is my main question.

How critical is it that the rear track width matches the front track width exactly?

I can make this setup work with the DRW hubs, but the rear WMS will be 2in narrower than the front WMS. The SRW hubs dont seem to work. unless i have like a MKII SRW hub, redesigned at some point.

The old chevy's have always had a narrower rear track width.

cyberfire - you may have just saved me from losing my mind. thats the best news ive gotten all day. bless you

The rear track is usually 3" narrower than the front.

Looks like AJM has the number. You should be good to go.

guys, yall are freaking amazingly on point. i was so frazzled from the unexpected turn of events i didnt even think to read through the 14 bolt bible.

I do indeed have the wrong SRW hubs. they are for slip on drums as they are from a 1998 g-van. So, Ill see if i can find a set of the older style hubs, and if not, ill go with the DRW hubs. Thanks again guys.

You can't throw a dead cat at pickNpull here without hitting a SRW 14bolt. They're all 4.10 and higher geared, but it's still a 14 bolt right?

boondock5 - love the dead cat reference. and yeah weve got lots of 14 bolts out here too, i just never knew there was a year split, so in my mental retardation i got the wrong hubs. back to the junkyard with me. i dont have any dead cats to throw though....
