Frankenliner build thread. Up for sale.

Found out today that the C-12 is a 430 HP instead of the 380 HP they advertised. And 100k less on the odometer.

Plus 40k in mechanical stuff in 09. Then it was parked.

Oh so you have the C12 in this thing?
Same as my 2001 freightliner columbia.
That engine is rated at 377hp actually, but at the rear axle, I believe the engine at the flywheel is 430hp.
I do know that because when I bought mine Freightliner Dynoed it and I have the results.
I got 369 hp out of a rated 377 which meant the engine was like new (it was rebuilt 26k miles before I bought it)
I am planning on converting mine to an RV as soon as I am done with it (either close the business or upgrade to a newer truck for the business)
If I am going to be driving around the country I wouldn't be driving anything less.
And as you said you can't buy a duramax or a cummins truck with that.
I paid 26k for my 2001 in 2007 :thumb:

Same engine my Freightliner has. Some c12 facts for ya. They like to eat topends and cams.

What tranny and rears?

Tell me more about the C12.
I have one in my truck and it was rebuilt at 610k.
I did find it odd, but I figured a bad driver judging from the condition of the truck.
Anything I should watch for or any special care required?
I have put 450k so far and other than a few rusted thru cooling or oiling lines that broke on me, it's been running strong, pulling 80k just fine.
I did notice though that the oil pressure doesn't stay as high as my brother in law's 3406E.
Mine will idle at about 35 and get up to 55-60 while cruising.

And I believe he said his truck has the 10 speed, and unless it says on the shifter, I doubt he knows if it's an eaton fuller or meritor, or the spicer.

Eaton/fuller. HP is always rated at crank on those. I will know what it is on Monday. They smog them on a dyno here. Got my temp permit so I can weigh it tomorrow and get it smogged so I can get tags.

Dodged a bullet yesterday when I got the VIN verified. Drove it 3 miles to a dirt lot dealer to get the inspection done. Drove it home. Got in my chevy and drove back down the same road. Trooper was sitting looking for speeders. It was maybe 10 minutes later.

Those troopers don't mess around. Everytime I see one I just know they will turn around.

So who in Falcon does VIN checks. Ive been trailering mine in town

Got some work done today. Stripped the old hitch and rack. Rack had not been moved since new. Had to cut the air ram and the cross plates. Then pried the pieces off. Cleaned the rails.

Set up the new hitch at 25 inches off of the truck and 50 inches off of the ground. Started checking more dimensions. Blew a number of them. Jimmy is 15'-2", not 14'.

Had to move the hitch back to 46" off of the back of the truck. This gives me turning clearance and sets overall length at 70 feet even. With the stinger I can go to 75 feet.

YES IT WILL WORK.

Looks funny in the pictures. But when the bed is finished. It wont look so far out there.

New location. A new bed will be around this. It will be part of the ramp system to get the truck and car on.

The truck is cool and all  don't get me wrong ... but I'm more jealous of having a shop big enough to fit it into. I'd be happy if I could fit my Blazer into the garage to work on her comfortably :haha:

More work done. Not looking like much. But to get it centered and square on a bent rack frame, took some doing.

set up the new hitch location

If I can just figure out how the get the front of the upper rear deck to go all of the way down, then back up. The math is killing me. 28 degrees in the shop is not helping.
