I guess I should have updated this in February of this year.
Was headed to KOH and I had an issue with with the transmission going into 7th. The splitter is supposed to auto shift down as I cross the H pattern. Has not worked since I bought the truck. I like manually shifting anyways.
On the 1100 mile drive there, I was having an issue finding 7th. Would not go straight to 8th because the out shifter would drop the splitter out. Had to go back to 6th a number of times.
On the way home, it got worse. Then 8th would not engage. Then it drops out of 10th and just free wheels. Go back into 9th, then back into 10th. Got ahold of
@Bent77 to get
@Truckman4life 's number. We could not phone fix it at 65mph at 9 o'clock at night. Spent the night in a rest area on the 40 day south of Santa Fe, NM.
Next morning I headed north. Issues are still there but I am moving. As I crossed the Colorado State line. I started loosing gears. Down hill, loaded with the Jimmy and a TJ on my trailer, gave me the willies when the transmission would free wheel.
In Trinidad Colorado, I lost everything but 3rd year. Just free wheels in the rest of the gears. Limped it to a rest area just north of Trinidad. Had low reverse and 3rd. A local shop had a guy working on a truck next to me. He crawled under as I worked the splitter. He could he it activating both directions. This was at 10am.
I drove it to their shop. Unhooked the trailer. Stripped everything of value out of the semi and the Jimmy. Already had the owner of the Jeep heard down with his truck. They quoted me $6k to swap out the transmission with a rebuilt and a clutch.
The semi was supposed to be hauled to my house the next day. Nope. Took 4 days and $1100 to get it to me. Unloaded the Jimmy and put the semi away. Did not want to work on it on the cold floor. Then I had to move it to work on some money making projects.
I have spent the last few evenings researching the air shifting system. I truly believe that is where the problem is.
I finally got some time to pull the semi in and drive it up on the ramps to start looking at it. Took me 2 hours to get the driveshaft out. Sucks working by myself. I have to pull the drive shaft just to get enough room to work on the top of the transmission.
That is all for now.
