Okay, so I'm about done Herculining the entire tub of my 87 Jimmy and I was just wondering what type of speaker setups you guys have in your Blazers. Since I won't have my interior bed sides on anymore, I won't have anywhere to mount speakers.

Also, what do you guys do for front speakers? The little 4" speakers I bought don't put out nearly enough sound to do anything, and they sound distorted and barely handle any power. I was thinking about some custom kickpanels or something, if they make anything like that.

Let's see some pictures and hear some ideas. Thanks.

LMC makes kickpanels with speakers, as well as a headliner with speakers, they are prob junky though. Make up some custom side panels, and run marine speakers, so if you get any water on them they won't screw the speakers up.

I was going to just buy some marine speakers and put them in 6x9 boxes in the rear corners of the bed, but I figured maybe someone knew of a better idea or product on the market.

I know my buddy's Heep has "SoundWedges" that are 6x9 boxes that wedge up in the corner of the bed.

You could do that as well, i'm a fan of sidepanels, but that would def work! you could also mount speakers in the door too.

I actually took out my rear 6x9 speakers because you couldnt hear them that well. I would put separate mids and highs in the front and a box with some 12's in the back for base.

I thought about that, but I'm not sure what type of setup to do in the front. Before I tore my interior all apart, I pretty much relied on my 6x9s in the back to put out enough sound. But when I'm doing 60-70 mph down the highway with my mud tires singing and loud exhaust, I can barely hear my music without distorting and nearly blowing the speakers by turning it up all the way.

I ran some Pioneer 4 way 6X9's in boxes. Ran a small 50-100 watt amp to them & made them sound great. Believe it or not the amp really made the difference.

I run a cheapie JVC stereo hooked up to 4 patio speakers that are attached to my cage, 2 behind the driver and pass seat and 2 behind the back seat. I can out blast motor wind and tire noise with ease.

I honestly thought about using some regular home stereo speakers. Right now I'm eyeing up some marine rated Polk 6x9s for the back. When it comes to mounting them, I still need to figure something out. And when it comes to the front speakers, I haven't even began to think about what to do up there.

Keep the ideas and pictures coming :D

why not clamp some of those speakers like they put on the towers of wakeboard boats on to your rollcage(if you have one that is). something like this

Check the bargain and scratch and dent bins on Crutchfield.com

Are you wanting wonderful sound or just sound?

Mine's a CUCV with no sound insulation, deep gears, tires that sing, and a diesel. I put a Dual brand CD player in the stock location, some Blaupunkt 3.5's in the dash, and some 6.5" Kenwoods in the doors at the bottom. Nothing fancy but they work well. I've recently put 38's on it and now that the engine is spinning a bit slower at speed I can hear the stereo just fine.

Try some bedliner in your wheel wells.

I have bedliner on my wheel wells. How is this supposed to help me mount speakers?

Also, great idea about the speakers on the rollcage, but I don't have one (yet anyway).

I'm just wanting sound. Are there holes already in the doors for speakers?

No holes in the doors but a saw and drill will fix that.

The liner on the wheel wells helps to deaden sound.

6x9's in the front corner of the doors. And two 6x9's in Tuffy boxes hung on the sides of the bed. The fronts have fantastic sound, the rears are too hollow. I need to put some sound deadener inside the boxes.

I think power doors will cause some difficulties fitting 6x9's without building up the surface. Do a search someone here posted a really clean setup a while back.

Personally I'd put the side panels back in, I doubt you can beat them for sound. I'm going to fab some up eventually.

As mentioned an amp will help a great deal in improving the sound. As will a good quality head unit.

Finally, spend some time playing with the equalizer and the fader you can get surprising results that way.

Well my side panels are trash. And I ripped all my mounts off the bed sides. Apparently LMC truck doesn't carry new sidepanels or mounts. Oh well, I'll deal with it.

I'm thinking of 2 6x9s in boxes in the bed corners, and I'm still brainstorming with front speakers. I have power door locks and windows. I might have to cut the side panels in front of the doors and mount some 6.5's in there.

Mine came with a template. I just did some basic measuring so that the speaker wasn't going to hit the door jamb while closing and was clear of everything else and went at it with the drill and saw.

Two pairs of good quality 6x9's will make your rig rock, especially if you add a 4-channel amp. 6.5s will be a close second.
