On my 89 K5 when installing the lift the fornt axle tube breather line was pulled out of the housing and I am unsure how it keeps in there? should I just get a different fitting?

You could try cleaning both the fitting and the hole really well and using some JB weld to resecure it. That would be the cheap, easy route.

Other people tap the hole to a pipe thread and screw in a pipe thread/barb fitting. Not sure what size tap.

Tap it with a 1/8npt tap, insert npt/hose barb fitting, attach hose. Profit?

If the diff is apart, tapping it works well.

If not, JB Weld etc works fine. Just make sure the hose has room to flex.
